Hey ladies –
I’m planning a wedding for July of 2014. I’m looking for ideas on a pretty + petite wedding cake. We’re serving a different dessert (ice cream cake!), but I still want a small cake to feature. Any suggestions? I’d really like to keep it under $200 since it’s primarily for decoration.
(I’ve been hearing lots of great things about grocery store wedding cakes. Curious about those too.)

I don’t live anywhere near Wisconsin but definitely try grocery stores! They are so much cheaper than a bakery and just as delicious! I got a quote of $50 for a 8″/5″ two-tier cake in MD

grocery store– many licensed professional bakers make you sign a contract agreeing not to have any other cake at the wedding besides theirs.

@justabs06: definitely grocery stores. Places like pick n save even have them displayed in their bakery counter. If you’re ok to travel from MKE, Festival Foods has an awesome bakery (there’s one in Sheboygan). I’ve gotten quite a few sheet cakes from there. If you’re looking for organic, try Whole Foods.

I know this will seem crazy, but sams club has the best cakes! Random, but really tasty!

I haven’t personally tried it, but I live in Madison and I’ve heard our Hyvee has great cakes! If you live in northcentral WI, my aunt makes delicious and beautiful cakes (she’s an artist who also happens to be a great baker!). She is making my cake, and if you’re in that vicinity I’d be happy to give you more info if you email me.

@ferdie224: Ooo…good to know. I live on the west side and the Hyvee over here is almost finished!
