Hello all, I’m new on here and newly engaged but have been lurking for the past couple of months when it became clear that a proposal was indeed coming. I have found everyone’s posts, particularly the pics of dresses on real people, so so helpful! Can’t wait to contribute.
Yesterday, I went dress shopping for the first time at a discounted sample store, just as a place to start. Initially I was thinking I’d have one of these lacey, rustic, outdoor weddings but we’ve found an amazing contemporary art museum venue and are going that route. So I’m starting over a little on my dress research -> want something chic, sexy, sophisticated but with a touch of unique/architectural/modern art to it (and on my 5’2 frame).
I found this Peter Langner sample (see pic below) that fit like a glove and I’m really pleased with this look. It’s $2.4K discounted from $6K, which I guess is a bargain but I’m not yet convinced I’m willing to spend that much money on something I’m only wearing for a few hours and I only just started looking.
Is it possible to get a similar look from other brands for less (for $1K to $2K)? Any dresses that look similar? I could have sworn I saw similar dresses on here in other posts but cant find them now for the life of me! Thanks!

August2015Bride: it looks very similar to my dress which is a vera wang white at davids bridal. Currently selling for 948 on the db site. The line fits very true to size. I am adding a sweetheart neckline similar to what the one you have pictures shows. i can’t remember the style number but it’s the mikado silk fit and flare. Without the belt in the db pics, they are very similar.

Also, there is a Hayley Paige very similar but I think they are over 3k.

I have to tell you that I gasped when I saw this! I think it’s a gorgeous dress and looks fabulous on you. It’s just different enough than other dresses out there. I think it would be perfect for the type of wedding you’re describing, it’s very chic and sophisticated. I’m anxious to see what you decide on in the end!

I couldn’t find anything that looked the same as your example. When I think modern/architectural, other than sheath dresses it. Askew me think of dresses with textural details in the skirt, such as tiers, pleats and ruffles. So this is wht I cme up with.

Mori Lee 5108 has a similiar feel. There are several bees pictured in it.

I feel like my dress below is somewhat similar. It’s enzoani formosa and was $1200.

I meant to post these Essense dresses also:

Thank you, Thank you ladies!!! You really nailed it on the dresses (clairebear: I love some of the Essence dresses!) and you all identified EXACTLY two of the dresses I was thinking of and had seen before but couldn’t remember the designers or numbers – Essence D1541 and Mori Lee 5108. And now I have some more contenders too. Hoping some of those look good on me. I’ll post the results later.
actually_06: Awww, thanks! I definitely let out a wow when I stepped out of the dressing room. Was one of the first dresses not to completely swallow me up. Unfortunately though since I’m a big time dancer, I’ll definitely have to get a second reception dress and then getting one of these more expensive dresses becomes even less wise. I gotta be realistic about the money.
