Hmm, I don’t have any suggestions at the moment but I’m commenting so I can come back to this later if I think of anything or to see if anyone else has an idea!

-volunteer for an activity happening in your community- a fundraising run, fair, book sale,

– take a meal to the homeless- a cup of soup or stew, a bun and a container of milk or cup of coffee would be much appreciated

– hold a sock drive for the homeless

-do a clothing drive for the needy in your community- donate only to groups that give the clothing free to those in need or park yourself in a downtrodden area and give it away free yourselves

-hold a drive and put togther “welcome baby” kits for low income mothers- diapers, wash clothes, diaper rash cream, etc are all much appreciated- give them to a pregnancy program for low income moms

– do a toiletries drive for the homeless and low income people in your community

– volunteer in a shelter or soup kitchen- take gifts of games and books for the kids

– collect and volunteer for a food bank

– host a blood drive to increase donations for victim of trauma ( like our dear PennyLainne) or those who need transfusions due to a disease process)

-collect school supplies for needy children- give to the inner city or low income schools

-organize a musical instrument drive- give them to the band instructor at a school to share with kids who would love to be in the band but can’t afford an instrument

– find a senior who needs help to do some yard or home maintenance and spend the day or the weekend fixing, tidying and repairing. Many elderly people can’t do even the physical work required to wash their walls as it would throw them over the edge if they have Congestive Heart Failure

-do a fundraiser to send needy kids to summer camp

– contact the organizations who do run summer camps for low income kids and see what help they need- collect crafts materials, summer clothes and shoes, raingear etc

– work with the community to clean up and replant a park or empty lot

– clean up grafitti in a neighbourhood

– host a car wash with donations directed to a local project

Are there any possibilities to work with Habitat for Humanity? I’ve always wanted to do something with them but have never really looked that seriously into it.

I’m interested! Hartford would actually be perfect for me if that pans out.

I think I’d like to participate. My birthday is June 23 and I think it’s be really cool to celebrate it by helping others πŸ™‚

I am definitely interested! I’m about 15 minutes from Hartford so that would work really well for me and I’ve always wanted to do something with habitat! Good job, Ms Woodpecker!!
