yogahhh:  I second that What to expect when you’re expecting is a great book. It answers a lot of the common questions. Didn’t find it fear inducing at all.

cbgmtx:  I kinda can’t put it down. Very informative, and not scary at all! It’s going to happen so may as well read about it to educate yourself!

I muddled my way through the first few weeks using the Mayo Clinic Guide and Expecting Better by Emily Oster.

If you’ve already got What to Expect then I highly recommend reading Expecting Better as well. The author is an economics professor who has examined each of the most common pregnancy warnings (eg. don’t eat deli meats) and tried to determine whether there is real evidence to support them. I found it great for lowering my first trimester anxiety!
