I wouldn’t put anything into it, that probably won’t be consumed while your guests are there. When we travel by plane, we pack light. We’ve only gotten one guest bag, and whatever was left when we packed to return home, went into the trash.

acglandorf:  Not a destination wedding, for the couple. My family had to fly 2 hours, then pick up a rental car and drive 2 hours, to get to the small city, where the wedding was held. A number of guests did have to fly-in, though, especially the bride’s family. The bulk of the overnight guests only stayed for the 2-night, 3-day weekend.

This was a wedding where a big deal was made of the gift bags, and favor jars the bride put together (filled with Jordan almonds – that were taken and then tossed), and the hosting (food, especially) was lacking. My family left early and then stopped to pick up something to eat, on the way back to the hotel.

As with favors, it’s really tough to predict what your guests will want or need. I travel with a kit of OTC and prescriptions Rxs, sunscreen (I need a real high number), prescription sunglasses, etc. We don’t drink alcohol, so shot glasses, little bottles of booze, hang-over pills, and bottle openers aren’t necessary. I don’t eat candy…

Okay, I sound like a negative Nellie … but it’s just my take on things. I’m just one of those people who doesn’t get excited over guest bags or favors. Others do, so it’s another thing where you have to “know your crowd.”

P.S. My family did take advantage of the large cookies and cold bottles of water, that the hotel gave them, upon check-in.
