I’m in quite a predicament right now. We reserved a discount price with a local men’s formal wear rental company for suits a year ago and they are now telling us that those suits are no longer available for us to rent…after going in to get groomsmen measured and questions answered the past few weeks no one *ever* mentioned anything about the suits not being available. We found out from a groomsman who went in to go measured about a week ago…with about a month left til our wedding!! Needless to say I’m very very pissed off. My Fiance spoke with someone from the company they said that it was too expensive a suit to rent out for the discounted price we paid and that they are no longer available (or some nonsense like that). But he offered to give us a substitute *tuxedo* but it is not a suit and it is not brown like I wanted…its a black tuxedo, he suggested we could go with a brown vest but I’m getting married outside and don’t want the ceremony to become *too* formal (hence the suits) so…what do I do? Can they wear tuxedos with brown vests outside?? My Fiance said maybe they could remove their jackets…will this work?? I’m sooo angry with them! I’ve visited other companys and aside from it being to late to order they charge double what we were going to pay for the suit rentals! Do you think the tuxs will be ok??? Or should I go with something else??

I would think- that if you write a persausive, yet nice letter to the manager- about the agreement you made with the store and that you hope they will honor it- that they should. Is it a larger chain suit store? Maybe you could contact a district manager to intervene.
I do think a tuxedo outside won’t look too formal either.
Good luck- it will all work out.

I sure hope a tuxedo outside isn’t too formal, because that is what we are planning for our morning wedding that is outside.

Follow your instincts. Black tux + brown vest + outdoor wedding = not so hot (IMO). They can’t just decide that the price they offered is now too low, when a year ago it wasn’t. Where’s the logic there? If they won’t cooperate (even though they certainly should), I say find another place. They don’t deserve your business.

Since it’s outdoors, have you thought about a tan suit instead?
I did a quick search and found this: http://jimsformalwear.com/tux202_suit.htm
Also, if you go to one of your orginal vendor’s competitors and explain what happened, they might bend over backwards to help you. Everyone likes a chance to show they are "better" than the other guy.
I also agree with the idea of taking your complaint up the chain of command to the district or national level.
If all else fails, what about letting them wear their own dark suit and using the money that would have gone to the rental toward matching ties in your colors (one of which is brown, I am guessing.)
Let us know how you fare!
