After finally finding my dress I’ve turned my radar towards my FH and his groomsmen (6 in all). The wedding is going to be more on the casual side and I’m not sure what to do for the groomsmen to keep the somewhat casual feel. I have no problem getting FH to buy his suit (JCrew is relatively reasonable- probably about $500 for the whole 3 piece suit and shirt) but I can’t ask his groomsmen in this economy to shell that kind of money out. Does anyone know of any places in the NYC area that rents suits? Tuxes are way too fancy (and I’m not thrilled at how most of them look anyway) but I can’t seem to come up with any options for the groomsmen.

not a rental but very reasonable prices(close to the cost of a rental):http://www.kgstores.com/
here’s one that does rent suits:http://www.abesformalwear.com/demo/index.php?cPath=155&osCsid=7fb5ccfc49b1bcb55cd09bc525d1f3bf
I think Men’s Wearhouse also does suit rentals in some locations.

Thanks guys!! 🙂 I like the vest idea a lot (plus with JCrew it’d come out to about $300 per person, which I’m guessing is about how much it costs to rent a nice tux), but not sure if the guys would be into it or not, so it’s great to know about Abe’s Formalwear as a good option!

I wasn’t picky and just gave our groomsmen some specific guidelines. Then they could pick out their own suit and I didn’t have to feel guilty for ‘forcing’ them to buy a $300 ensemble. Most of them ended up buying the suits I had sent them links to at JCrew and Express. They all looked great, and it turned out really cute that their suits (vest & slacks) didn’t match perfect.

We are renting tuxes from Men’s Wharehouse for $99. My brother is in 3 weeddings this year and his most expensive tux rental was $159 so I think $300 is a Very high estimate for a rental.
Do the guys wear suits ever? If you can assume they already own white button up shirts, I would look at macys.com sale section. Often they have nice suits on clearance for under $200. Alternatively, overstock.com tends to have a selection of suits under $200 but they don’s thave the benefit of a store. You could of course go into Macy’s and see what hey have in store and if they don’t have 6 of what you want maybe they can get them from other stores or online. If you are open, I think you will easily be able to find suits for purchase under $200 which will only be slightly more than rental. You could even buy the guys’ ties as part of their gift.

$99! Yikes that is way cheaper… I think you have a good point about looking around. I’ll have to check Macy’s- Express is a great idea too! Didn’t even think of that. I figured I’d get them the shirts (if they don’t have them) and the ties. I want to include my Scottish clan’s tartan in the wedding, and got some pretty negative reactions to the kilt suggestions, so tartan ties are in order 😛

I know that about twice a year Men’s Warehouse does a buy one get one free on suits! You can then have 2 groomsmen split the price of that and it wouldn’t be that pricey. PLUS they would be able to keep the suit!
