After some awkward and disappointing attempts at trying to find a tux to rent, my FH and I started rethinking the idea of suits. Our wedding style is not very formal or traditional anyway and we both like a little more organic texture than than tuxes have to offer. We found some really affordable suit options online at Khol’s so we went to check them out. After checking the suits out in the store, my FH and I found a grey vest and a charcoal sports coat that we really liked, but the problem with a sports coat is that it does not have matching pants. My FH found a pair of pants he liked in a slightly lighter shade of grey than the coat. In person, you can hardly tell the difference in color, but in photos you can really see it. I don’t mind if they don’t match (there’s no way they can) but I’m not sure if this particular combo works. Thoughts?

first of all, i love his pose in the first picture – very gq! 🙂
but, i think it looks nice. it’s more natural looking than a tux, not too matchy-matchy. i do, however, think that black pants or lighter grey pants (matching the vest) would look better in photos.
at the end of the day, it’s YOUR wedding. if you love it, then go for it! you’ll be the one looking at pictures for the rest of your life, so you and your fiance are they only ones you need to please.

I’m thinking of something British- and I don’t know why, but I think it looks fine. It looks like you meant for it to be that way.

I think it looks very nice! It looks like the finish on the fabric of the pants is different than that of the jacket, which is why the color difference may only show up in photos. If you don’t mind it, your guests probably won’t either.
Are you planning to have the boys leave their jackets on?

I am all for a casual look, but I honestly think this looks a bit sloppy. Like you tried to match it but didn’t succeed. I would try something with more contrast so it looks more intentional.

The vest and jacket look great – what an awesome find at Kohls! If anything, I’d test out black pants as well, but either would look fine & if it doesn’t bother you, then go for it!!

I think it looks fine and especially is you are not being supper formal about it. You have be happy and if the pics are bothering you I would suggest trying a different option.

Thanks for all the feedback! We tried black pants and we didn’t like them that much, but maybe we’ll try a second time. Is it uncommon to wear lighter pants with a sports coat?

We are also doing suits but Khaki in color and are renting them. If you have a Jim’s Formal wear close or a vendor that uses them. Check them out. They are like 75.00 or something to rent. Here is a link to see if they are in your area. PLUS they just added a grey suit new for 09. I LOVE it! Good luck!
