I’m looking for an affordable simple black or charcoal suit for my FH. We want to spend below $250. It doesn’t need to be super fancy, but it would be preferable if I could find something that is a nice quality for the price. I was looking at the Macy’s site last night and noticed that they have some very affordable suits on sale right now. Does anyone have experience with them? We live in super northern California so going to Macy’s in person isn’t really an option for us.
Any other recommendations for cheap but halfway decent suits?

Our groomsmen wore Charcoal suits from Macys, brand was Alfani Red and they were slim fit. I think they were 220ish. They were pretty nice for the price.

We looked and Macy’s but we couldn’t find anything we liked. I don’t know if you are anywhere near a Savvi formalwear but that is where we purchased our suits from. They were around $150 and good quality. They don’t have the selection as some other places but we love the suits.

We looked at those charcoal Alfani suits at Macy’s. We really liked the color & they seemed well made, but they only come in slim fit. My husband is…. not slim. They just did not fit his body. He would have had to buy the vest & coat in the next size up to be able to get into them. We ended up purchasing from Men’s Wearhouse. I think all 3 pieces ended up costing us $300.

I HIGHLY recommend Kohls! Believe it or not, we found Chaps suits on super sale that were fantastic quality. The tailor our Bridesmaid or Best Man used kept commenting how great the quality of the material and construction were, and he could not believe we got them at Kohls! Right now it looks like the jacket and pants are both buy one, get one half off – they are sold separately. (Plus I’m sure you could google a coupon code.) The photo online makes the suit look like a medium/light gray, but it is actually quite dark. Not sure if it’s truly “charcoal,” but definitely darker than the stock photo.

My bf was a groomsman this fall and all of them bought slim fit suits from Macy’s for around $200 in the summer. They were either Alfani or BarIII, but they fit all the guys pretty well, I only think one or 2 of them needed jacket altertations on sleeve length. They were also varing heights from 5’5″ to 6’3″ and the suits looked good on them. They were all of average to slim build though.
They ended up getting matching ties and shirts from Kohl’s so I agree that that might be a good store to check out for full suits too. If you sign up for their emails they send 15-20% off coupons to you.

Our best friend wears several Macy’s suits day to day. They’re not up to his usual standards, but I think they look smoking, and of good quality (and I’m in tailoring).
I recall their return policy being bad for gift receipts but fine for normal receipts, so buying online isn’t a bad option. Still, I’d tend toward trying things on, where possible. There are plenty of places, like Kohl’s mentioned above, with the ability to fit them without paying shipping both ways.

I am going to suggest Kohls too. I mean they have some really awesome sales and their suits are really nice. My FH bought a really nice two peice on clearance for under 150, and that included a tie.
Also look at JCPENNEYs, sometimes they can have some good deals as well.

Thanks everyone so much for all the help! We finally made the plunge and ordered something (just in time! yikes!) through the President’s Day weekend sale going on right now. We went with Calvin Klein but we ordered directly through the CK site so we could order the pieces as separates. I’d highly suggested checking it out right now if you are looking because almost everything is 40% off!
Groom went with a classic fit black suit with a navy pavo tie and a plain white shirt. Yay! I can’t wait.
