We’re doing winter for a few reasons:

    1. Like you said, he’ll be on block leave

    2. We don’t want to wait until next summer =) hehe

    3. Winter block leave also means that the majority of our families will also be on break at that time as well.

    4. It’s Colorado–I LOVE the mountains and the snow–so it just fit us better =)

    5. His summer block leave dates will change every year where as his winter block leave will always fall on the 30th.  So to us, that meant, that as long as he is not deployed we will always get to have our anniversary together (That sold me!)

    Hmm, no black leave here!

We’re doing summer because of the weather, but also a better uniform. He preferred the choker whites over the winter uniform. That sounds kind of vain, but it’s the truth.

Just curious – what’s block leave?  DH is Navy and I know he doesn’t get anything like that.  I’ve never heard of it!  Interesting…

@subbywife11: i believe it’s when the entire unit is on leave at the same time. my fiance is a marine and doesn’t get block leave either (at least not that i know of).

to answer the question (even tho the block leave doesn’t apply to me), we chose september just because of the weather. we’re having an outdoor reception and wanted the weather as pleasant as possible, so hopefully it won’t be too hot or too cold.

I always thought block leave happened before or after deployment. Hmmm…needless to say Fiance doesn’t get that! I would love a winter wedding! I always though a Christmas or a  New Year’s Eve wedding would be so much fun! We’re doing fll though because it works for our families.

    Winter wedding for us.

All of our family is scattered in ON, so we knew for sure we were stuck doing the wedding there. ON has crappy winters, but we’re both used to it from being raised there.

I’ve just been to soo many summer weddings. Winter was more “me.” I like the cool colours more than bright sunny colours.

For us it will be more a matter of school semester breaks but it still leaves the choice of winter or summer. I want an outdoor wedding in Florida which would definitely not work in the summer, so I’m planning winter so far. If we change it to Montreal then it would be summer (again for climate reasons).

@zombiemonster:  I selected summer… I’m from the northeast too… So, like you, winter is not trustworthy in our area πŸ™‚ And I grumpy in winter (esp. with how bad our winters are)… so I always choose summer over winter πŸ™‚ haha

@zombiemonster:  Ohhh… interesting!  Yeah, Darling Husband doesn’t get to do that really, so I wasn’t sure what that meant.  Pre and post deployment ‘leaves’ are usually only a few days for him (from what I understand), and they don’t do holiday stand downs either.

Anyways, we chose winter because we like that season better, and for our guests it worked better for them to attend a winter wedding than a summer one.  All of our friends getting married from the circle chose a summer wedding, so we did something completely different.  I think we actually got more/better attendance (and gifts) because we weren’t getting married around the same time as everyone else, although we didn’t realize that until after the wedding.
