MrsBuesleBee:  That sounds lovely! KY weather is notoriously unpredictable, so you have to be flexible and have a backup plan, but it can totally work!

JenGirl:  Yes the site we chose (botanical garden) has a beautifully finished and A/Ced barn for a ceremony rain plan, reception in a big sturdy tent! Mom was big on the rain plan and shes totally right! Hoping for a beautiful sunny day of course!

MrsBuesleBee:  At our rehearsal it downpoured! It was awful. It even hailed for awhile! In August! We bought more siding for the tent and I totally resigned myself to a rainy wedding day. Then on wedding day it was a little overcast but didn’t rain a drop all day! We got really lucky!

JenGirl:  oh man thats some serious rain, Im sure you were nervous! what a lovely wedding though.

I was thinking of maybe getting cute wellies/umbrellas for my BMs if the forecast is bad, and returning them if they go unused.

cbj9:  I have to agree with others, I grew up in DC, summers are brutal, so humid and hot! Usually in July I barely want to be outdoors, it’s a lot to ask of people when they’re all dressed up, I’d avoid it.

cbj9:  Went to an August outdoor wedding just outside of DC a few years back.  It was AWFUL!  It was so hot and humid, everyone was literally dripping sweat!   I felt so bad for the groomsmen – I could see the sweat dripping off their faces from several rows back.

Ugh, I would hate to sit through that, to be honest.  I’m a wimp about humidity since I live in the Rockies.  Not to mention people with legitimate health issues, etc.  We had an outdoor ceremony in August, but the heat is waaaay more pleasant here because it’s so dry.

way too hot in DC to do an outdoor wedding in July, if it was June or September I’d say go for it

Hmm I have the same question! My wedding is going to be in southern VA in August with an outdoor ceremony (vineyard).

I am planning to provide parasols, pre-ceremony icey drinks… will that be enough? It will be a quick ceremony, 20 mins. But then cocktail reception is also mostly outside. I assume the ladies can just keep their parasols while they hang out outside right? They can go inside if they really want to, but I will have lawn games… It should look really cute to see everyone outside playing lawn games with parasols. Will people go for it??

cbj9:  We are having an outdoor ceremony in early July in NJ. It can get BRUTAL and I absolutely hate the heat! We luckily have an indoor space we can use also – honestly, if it’s goign to be 90 or above…we are moving inside. We are having a very short ceremony (10 minutes probably) but if its going to be that hot… I don’t care! We are doing it inside!

I was sweating in the bridal salon trying on my dress… I can only imagine in 90 degree weather! I keep hoping that maybe an unexpected cold front will move in! LOL
