Has anyone used this machine or know if its any good? I picked it up from big lots for 40 and its doing what it needs to so far but I am only at the very beginning of trying to pick up sewing so I don’t know much about what to look for in a machine.

I’ve never used this. But for a beginner, why spend the big bucks. Just make sure you have wound your bobbin and inserted it correctly. Learn how to thread your machine. Know what tension problem looks like and how to fix it.
I used to teach sewing, so I recommend you learn how to “steer” by using paper (no thread). Cute a piece of paper into quarters. Then use the differnent lines and edge of foot to line up the edge of the paper to practice differnt seam allowances–5/8″, 1/2″, 1/4″. Also learn how to pivot at the corners.
Once you are comfortable, change your needle (it will be very dull) and start practicing the same stiches but on small scraps of fabric.
Good Luck, have fun and dont be too frustrated by all the mistakes.
