I went to the florist the other week to get some ideas on the flowers I wanted for the wedding. At first I decided I was going to go with roses but after looking at the colors I was interested in they just looked too dark in comparision with the dresses I’m having the girls wear. (my colors are dark navy and silver, both of which, in pictures, will be pretty dark so I needed something to brighten them up)
After doing some looking in her books however I decided that I really liked the idea of doing sunflowers. The girls bouquets would be sunflowers with some orchids and billy balls to add texture. My bouquet would be sunflowers with some orange roses mixed in. The mens bouts would just be a flower that looks like a mini sunflower and my Fiance will have an orange rose in his to match my bouquet.
I was also thinking that it would be beautiful to have some very small (4″) mum centerpieces on the table to go with the candles and a mirrored tile the venue is supplying. However the mums will cost around $300 total for 12. Does that seem like way too much money?
I would love opinions on all these ideas. I’ve been so damn indecisive about everything and the reason I loved the idea of sunflowers is that my wedding is in the fall and sunflowers are a colorful flower (which completely matches my personality and will definately serve to brighten up the color pallet). However, do you think I will regret it later that I didn’t get something more elegant. I thought sunflowers would be cheaper but still beautiful.

I wanted sunflowers really, really badly. I’ve always thought I would have them at my wedding, but they don’t fit the color scheme or the feel.
If you love them, and they’ll fit your theme, I say go for it. Roses are lovely, but they’re very ‘standard,’ and it doesn’t sound like that’s your taste at all.
I haven’t had my florist appointment yet, so I have no idea on the mum pricing, sorry!
You should read this poem by Allen Ginsberg, though, it’s one of the reasons I wanted sunflowers. I love the last stanza so much :).

@jo.lee: Well our “theme” is kinda princess and knight feel. We are having the men in silver tuxes and they will all be carrying swords during the ceremony. The bridesmaids will be wearing navy and silver heels. And the cake will have knight and princess on the top. That’s about as much knight and princess stuff we have implimented so far.
But I see your point. I LOVE LOVE yellow and maybe I could just find other flowers I like better for the bouquets?

Why do I keep second guessing myself???

What are you leaning towards now? If you like the sunflowers, go for it, they can be gorgeous in bouquets! I have to admit to being biased as the one thing I knew I wanted in my wedding was sunflowers – whereever, whenever we had it, sunflowers were going to be our main flower! I have seen them done in different ways, I think they can be elegant, cute, fun or really striking, it just depends what you put them with.
Not sure if it helps, but if you like the yellow but want roses instead, what about yellow roses maybe?
I think the sunflowers & mums would be a really pretty combination & great with your colours. Attaching some pictures in case they help – the first is what I have gone for with my bouquet.
