Drink water!  I think that means you are dehydrated.  I like the original peppermint Burt’s Bees.  It is the only thing that helps!

FI and I have been dealing with horribly chapped lips right now too.

He uses Jack Black lip balm, which is really comfortable and seems to help.  I also bought a bottle of Clinique’s All About Lips, which helps as far as healing goes but does nothing for protection.

LUSH sells a wonderful lip scrub.  I also use vaseline on my lips overnight after using the scrub.

@NurseMandie:  You need to (very gently) exfoilate your lips before moisturizing. When they are that chapped and you put on balm, your just moistening the dead cells, not getting to the level underneath. Get yourself a lip exfoilating balm or put some vasaline on your lips and then GENTLY use a soft bristled toothbrush in a circular motion on your lips. Wipe of the dead skin and then use your balm.

I like Sugar by Fresh. It’s smooth & hydrating without any tingle and it stays on! Kinda pricy though.

I like Kiehl’s and Rosebud Salve lip balms… They’re gentle, don’t have irritating menthol in them like Burt’s Bees, and are cheaper than Clinique or prescriptions.  Also, Palmer’s cocoa butter and Maybelline Baby Lips are nice.  I get the same problem with very dry lips that are irritated by many menthol-containing balms.

@NurseMandie:   Is this what you have going on in the corners of your mouth?  If so, go see your doctor.  I wound up needing prescription anti-fungal cream.

I thought I had really bad chapped lips.  I loaded up on water and lip balm, and nothing helped until I found out that I was deficient in vitamin B2 and that it was a fungal infection.  Now I drink lots of water and take a multi vitamin to make sure it doesn’t come back.
