I don’t think you are abnormal at all! I’m super defensive about everyone in my family, especially my mom. It’s hard to see someone you love treated poorly.

I’m also super defensive too. Usually for my own family but I’m kinda mad FOR you. “Not his thing”? What the hell is that supposed to mean? I can see if he’s got a fear of hospitals or being inside of them. But the way you put it makes it sound like he’s uninterested.

Hopefully when your mom recovers, she’ll realize who was there for her.

No, I’d be pissed too. However, it’s going to have to take your mom to open her eyes up. Unfortunately no matter what it’s going to have to be her to see it.

That would upset me, too.

You obviously love your mother, and you want her to be with someone who will be there for her not just when it’s convenient and fun for him but also when it’s not.  The nature of mature relationships is that couples should ideally be able to rely on each other in any situation — especially in times such as this.

However, it’s very possible that this guy just hates hospitals and anything having to do with medical issues. It sounds as if your mother is very aware of this and has decided she is willing to accept his presence in her life, despite the fact that he is unwilling to help her with something as important as this.

ETA:  I had an initial emotional reaction and I feel guilty about what I wrote about a man I don’t know…LOL.

More composed answer:  It sounds like he should really look at his priorities and rethink this.  Does Mom genuinely not seem upset?

@mattsgirl813:  Aww man that sucks. I guess just be there for your mom when the pieces fall. You love her very much it’s evident so she’ll thank you when you’re there.

@mattsgirl813:  Oh my goodness!  I’m glad she’s doing well and it’s good that he went with her, as he should.  All the best for her speedy recovery!
