So MrN & I toyed with eloping today (originally was planning it a few months ago) & decided not to & keep planning the big wedding BUT after much more drama (lovely family & money issues) we’ve decided to elope for real, we booked place in Niagara Falls and paid a deposit for November 10th at 4pm!!! 🙂
We are having our best friends come (awesome that they’re a couple) and my close friend who is also a photographer and her hubby, it’ll just be the 6 of us, no family because they are the ones who’ve caused SO many tears & fights.
We’ll have a nice dinner at Canyon Creek afterwards and then I’ll change out of my dress and into a shorter party dress & we’ll go to a bar/club and dance the night away!!!
We’re planning a big party next summer and will do a vow renewal likely so our families still get a big party but the stress is lifted, it can be more casual and fun vs. all the drama of a wedding!!
We have rings (my engagement ring is my grandma’s and I have her anniversary ring that I’m getting sized as my band), MrN is buying a ring he likes.
We had paid a deposit of $100 for flowers originally for this weekend and that’s still on file so I’m asking the florist to make 2 bouquets and 2 bouts and we’ll use the deposit money for it, our best man is booking hotel rooms for us (he stays at a specific hotel frequently and they always give him the best rooms), I’m going to to David’s Bridal with my dress in the next few weeks to get a boustier and also possibly a shawl/fur cape (it’ll be COLD), I have a veil & headpiece already, will go to a local hair dresser the day of, will do my own make up, MrN will pick up marriage liscense in a few wks, photographer is friend so we’re good to go!!)
I’m SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited!!

niagara is so pretty in the fall. are you doing the wedding on the US side or the canadian side? the canadian side, in my opinion, is much prettier, it’s got a nicer view.
and yes, you’ll definitely need a cape. it’ll be freezing. we had snow last year by then, if i remember correctly.

@colorofmyheart We are doing it on the Canadian side (we are Canadian, from the GTA). ceremony at Two Hearts Wedding Chapel and pictures at Queen Elilzabeth park (close to Fallsview Casino), dinner at Canyon Creek (in the casino), staying at a hotel across from the casino. 🙂

Congrats! That is what me and Darling Husband did, we traveled and had a private wedding with our 4 best friends. Then when we got home we had a big backyard bbq reception where we invited everyone. Having a wedding would have been HUGE. His family is 80-100 people at Christmas eve alone because his dad has so many siblings, it’s just a big family. Our guest list would have been 200-250 and that was just too much for a nice wedding. What we did was awesome and we loved it and our family wasnt sad about it since we still had the reception. We were 22/21 then and didn’t want to start life in major debt. You have to do whats right for you.
This thursday is our 10yr anniversary and were now planning to renew our vows next year. 🙂

Sounds lovely, Niagra Falls is soooo pretty and a grat place to elope! Beware of the drama though, cuz secret elopements can cause more, unfortunately…I do hope that your party does end up being stress free as you intend, it seems like eloping then having the big party is getting to be sucha popular thing to do now because of family issues, and a lot of the time family causes just as much stress for the vow renewal as they would have for the actual wedding.
Pretty headpieces! What does your dress look like? The shawl or cape is good thinking, it has been so cold lately!

Wonderstruck it’s only a secret until we elope, we’ll tell our families the following weekend and tell them our plan of the party next summer and we are going to be very firm in staying on course with no drama, simple as that OR there will be NO party!!
brideagain3650 Congratulations on 10 years!! Sometimes small & intimate is the best thing & so romantic
If anyone knows of places that come to your hotel for hair & make up let me know, I’m researching now.
