I’m sorry your upset but I’m confused on how they get 2 vacations out of this deal?  They won’t go on the one with you now right?

Oh man. I don’t even know what to say! That’s just … so wrong in so many ways. I’m so sorry 🙁 I hope that things end up working out, especially if this friend wants to keep you as a friend.

this may sound harsh but…i would seriously make them reimburse you for that money. Especially if she gave you her word that they would be going.

I’m confused!  They promised they’d go, now they’re NOT coming, but going to Disney instead with her kid?

Just based on their promises to go, then not coming, I’d definitely ask them to help you pay for those tickets.  It sounds like they probably won’t be able to, but it might drive home just how annoying and expensive this is for you.

This is a really low-class move.  So sorry you’ve got to deal with this one!  Blech!

No way they should get to use that credit! They should have to pay you back for it, especially since they gave you their word that they would be there. Totally unacceptable!

@missplanner- I get the credit thing now.  I agree they shouldn’t get to use it towards any other trip unless they pay for the ticket.  I would have to have a talk with them.  If they don’t pay you then I’d have to seek legal help and they wouldn’t be my friend any more.  1600 is a lot of money.  It would be different if it was a few hundred bucks.  I might get over that a heck of a lot faster then almost 2 grand!

Since you bought the tickets, can’t you just change the names on the tickets?  Give them to someone else who either is coming to your wedding, but can get the flight refunded OR invite some new, much worthier friends who will show up.  And actually, since this is your FI’s best friend, HE should be helping you deal with this & making it clear that the vacation you (plural) paid for was for her to come to YOUR wedding…if that’s not what she’s going to use it for, then she needs to turn it over to you guys or pay you back in FULL.

Yyyyyyyyyyyeah that is so messed up. They need to pay you back, or you’re using the credit for your 2nd honeymoon.

I would make them pay the change fee to have the tickets changed to your names, if you can do that, so that y’all can use the credits.

I am sorry, they would not be my friends anymore if they didn’t pay and I would probably sue. Did they offer to pay you back?
