You can skip the sugar pills any month to skip your period. You don’t need to start months in advance. I once tried to skip my period 3 months in a row and started spotting, so now I just skip it when I really want to (like for our honeymoon lol). If I only do it every once in a while, I experience no spotting.

I did this a fair amount (was on marvelon) and I never had break through bleeding. I jsut kept right on going with the next pack, and I didn’t have to do it months in advance, I just didn’t get AF until I stopped the pills for a week.

I do it whenever I need to, and haven’t had any problems!  Like PP said though, don’t do it too many months in a row or you’ll have spotting, but it’s perfectly fine to do occsaionally!

@Willow1991: The trouble with switching to a BC that is in three month stages like that, you still can’t control when you’ll have a period and when you won’t (Sure you’ll have it less often, but it still could fall on a day when you really would prefer not to have it lol)! If you just take regular BCP you can decide when to keep taking them so that you skip your period exactly when you don’t want to have a period!

I have had friends who have done this all the time for vacations, weddings, you name it, and it has always be ok with them.  I was with one exroomate at her obgyn appointment and the doc suggested it for her vacation.

i tried this once, but there was almost more bleeding than regular period, so i never gave it another shot.  i would definitely recommend starting skipping a month or two before, just in case your body reacts like mine did.

I used to do this all the time!  I had some cramping once in a while, but it was no biggie.  I never had breakthrough bleeding.  Once, I’d forgotten that I skipped my sugar pills and was convinced I was pregnant from my missed period.  Duhhhhhhh!  I was 20.  😛

@Willow1991:  All those 3 months pills really do is basically what we can do on our own, just skips the placebos. It’s not harmful at all!

Just FYI, I have skipped my period before by starting my next BC pack right away and I ended up completely MISSING my next period because my system was out of whack.  Don’t let this freak you out into thinking your pregnant!!!  It happened to my best friend too.
