Sorry I can’t help – I’ve been away from Mac for a couple of years.

I had to get a PC for my work.  But I decided to stop working for companies requiring crappy PC software.

I can’t wait to go back to MAC next spring!

Macs take a little getting used to if you’ve only known PCs but you just went from a Ford Fiesta to a Lexus in terms of equipment quality.

Good luck!

Version 1 of Sure Cuts A Lot is available for Mac, and version two “is expected to be released later this year.”  You can find all the info at Craftedge.com

Difference between version 1 and 2:

  • New ways to maniuplate ond organize objects including Select All, Group and Ungrouping
  • Add multiple pages
  • Use layers to organize objects within a page
  • Modify text more easily
  • Auto tracing feature to automatically convert images
  • Show rulers using inches or centimeters
  • Additional shapes added in the Shapes Library
  • Mac version is expected to be released later this year.
  • I will say that the auto tracing feature is pretty handy.  I’m not that great with illustrator and it’s helps when some things are just too complicated to convert into outlines.

You don’t need Illustrator.  I just got SCAL so I’m not completely familiar with all of its functions, but in order to do custom shapes you need a program that can save SVG (scalable vector graphic) files.

Version 2 of SCAL will let you upload any jpg and will attempt to make an outline of it.  That could work with aspen leaves if you find a clean image.  But, that version isn’t available yet for Mac.

You may be able to find some SVG leaf graphics on the web to use.  Or, if you know anyone who has Illustrator or a similar program they could make the image and send it to you?

    thanks for this post!

@jenna:girl, you are bada** with your knowledge of SCAL and cricut! i was going to get the SCAL without even thinking that it might not work with mac. seriously, people still use pc’s? i kid. i think i’ll wait now. hopefully, “sometime this year” turns into “sometime next month.”

@colorado: please post some pics of your projects! i am so in love with the cricut right now….i don’t even have it yet, but i am planning to get the expressions.

Not sure if this has been said yet or not but you can use Inkscape to convert into .svg files. Just do a quick google search and you can download it for free.
