I’ve been waiting for this moment for 5 years, everyone. 5 YEARS. Granted there were reasons we didn’t get engaged sooner, but those details won’t be discussed today. No, let’s talk about how my Fiance, Sean, (whom I live with) managed to completely pull the wool over my eyes and create the perfect proposal for me.
So let me be up front by saying this: suprising me was no easy task. He TOLD me he was having his grandmother’s ring redesigned for my engagement ring BACK IN MARCH! He even told me that it was finished again, IN MARCH…then silence…and waiting…..
I admit I was rather frustrated during this time and, to calm me down, my friend, Tania, suggested a girls weekend to Galena, IL 2.5 hours away where her parents had a house. I marked it down on my calendar and waitng for our girls weekend to arrive. This past Friday, Tania and I got into her car and headed up to Galena.
We painted the town red that night and stayed out until 1:30am, drinking, singing karaoke, meeting new people. We crashed when we got back to her parent’s house, and I went to sleep a happy girl.
The next morning we went back into town and had a light breakfast and did some shopping. At 12:30, Tania suggested lunch. I wasn’t really hungry but she said she was famished so we went to a little Italian Bistro for some lunch. I picked at my food and complained about the waiter, who seemed to be taking forever and alway disappearing. After a few measly bits of my food (which was delicious, I just wasn’t hungry at all) I was ready to go but Tania RAVED about the Tiramisu and said we HAD to order it. I said okay, even though I was ready to leave. I impatiently waited for the waiter to come back with the dessert.
Tania and I continued to chat until I felt a brush on my shoulder and a voice saying “Excuse me, miss?” I looked over and my Fiance was standing next to me with Tiramisu in his hand. My first reaction was “WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!” My mind filled with thoughts of someone dying or gravely injured. I didn’t even notice the ring placed at the front of the Tiramisu. In fact, nothing clicked until he knelt down and actually said the words “Will you marry me?” I, of course, freaked out and said yes. It was too surreal.
Then I started babbling, so in shock that I didn’t really know what I was saying. Some gems were “Are you and Danny (Tania’s boyfriend who drove up with Sean) going home tonight?” and “Tania, did you know about this?!”
I found out afterwards that Tania and Danny not only KNEW about it, but had helped plan the whole thing with my Fiance 2 MONTHS AGO! Also, my parents, his parents, and several mutual friends were in on it too. Turns out that I was really the only one in the dark and you know what? I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way!
My Saturday was filled with a wonderful engagement dinner with my new Fiance and friends, Danny and Tania, followed by drinks at a martini bar and then somehow the band playing at the bar found out I was a singer and invited me to sing a few tunes with them.
It was awesome and suprising and surreal and totally, totally perfect.
On to the wedding planning!!!
