I’m just recently engaged (August 30th to be exact) and am brand new to WeddingBee! I’m super excited to be a part of this group and looking forward to connecting with you all.
The background to the story – I knew that my Fiance had the ring. But he was able to pull off a complete surprise. We were headed up to Illinois where I’m from for a Family Gathering. It was like an informal reunion. We had all gathered at my cousin’s house for the cookout full with cornhole, BBQ and lots of drinks (yes we are definitely a drinking family). After dark, all the family had gathered downstairs into the basement of the home, well except myself and another cousin. We had been catching up sitting outside. Some family kept coming upstairs to get us downstairs in which I kept shooing off. Finally at one point, I was so annoyed at everyone bothering us to go downstairs and I caved.
When I arrived downstairs, all the family was gathered around the bar with shots in their hands. We raised our hands and we were all told that my Fiance was doing the toast. As he began his toast to say how much he loved my family and wanted to be a part of our family. Once he said “and I’m sorry for getting choked up” I knew what was going on. My family yelled and hollered.
He gave me a ring pop at first which was so typical for my Fiance to play a joke, then popped the real ring.
I’m not sure if you’ll be able to view the video for my cousin put it on FB and it might be private to outside people, but here’s the link in case it works:
The best picture we got from the night….. I was a blubbering mess…. couldn’t stop crying.
