My fiance has mentioned that he wants a cigar bar and a mariachi band. We can’t really afford the mariachi band at this point. But, I found some good deals on cigars. We are getting married at a winery and we could have some wine barrels put out with a marble slab over them. Then, I could set out the cigars and the matches (we have those as favors) for the guys. Would this be weird and maybe too smokey to have outside? They can’t “go outside” since we all are, so I was thinking of having it around the corner or something. I was also thinking I could surprise him with cigars while he’s getting ready? I don’t know what to do…just want to do something special for him but maybe not the cigar bar? What do you all think? Any ideas?

Just speaking for me, but I HATE the smell of cigar smoke. I don’t smoke at all, but the smell of cigarettes doesn’t bother me nearly as much as cigar smoke does. It’s just so greasy and strong smelling! I can’t even imagine eating around it. Bleh. Even if it is outside, what if the win changes and blows toward everyone? Or worse, no wind at all and it just settles?
Some people are also allergic to smoke, or are trying to quit smoking. So unless you can put them REALLY far away, or maybe inside, if there’s a place, it would seriously gross me out if I was there.

My fiance and his friends are big cigar smokers too, so I think that is a good idea.. but agree also that others may not like that in their area or while they’re eating. I’m sure they could find a place to smoke the cigars though. And I like the idea of surprising him with the cigars while he’s getting ready.. I think they’d really like that

My fiance loves cigars and I was actually thinking of getting him and his Groomsmen some cigars as well. If your Fiance likes cigars I think he would really like this!

We also considered this but our hometown is now largely non-smoking in public areas. However I do agree that it would probably be better for the majority of guests if it was a separate area. I think my Fiance is now just going to go with his groomsmen to get a nice cigar (for his nephew’s recent birth they got nice cigars that said “Baby Boy” so something like that but wedding related) and smoke it while they’re getting ready.

I really wanted a cigar roller at my reception, but my planner advised against it. She did cite the smoke and smell as big reasons… but she also said that the roller would take forever. Since you are just placing the cigars out there, I think it would be okay. You can’t predict how many people will smoke or not smoke and hate it… so I think you should create a little “smoker’s lounge.” Good luck! 🙂
