I will try to be quick because I know you want to see the ring
I have always loved Halloween, ever since I was a kid. Last year, I hung out at my now FIANCE’s house and he dressed up like a zombie, hid on his porch, and scared the older kids as they came to his door trick or treating (not mean scare, and he didn’t scare the little ones, but the older kids thought it was great!)
I was looking forward to doing to same this year, as I have been really down in the dumps since getting laid off last week. FI (I keep smiling as I type that!) texted me earlier yesterday and told me he had to stay to work late (he works for his family’s restaurant) and wasn’t sure what time he’d get out.
Needless to say, I was pretty bummed. I told him I would be at my parents’ house handing out candy there and to just let me know when he would get out. He kept apologizing for “ruining” my Halloween and promised he would make it up to me.
I usually dress up too when I hand out candy, but my mom told me not to this year. Looking back, I should have suspected something, but I didn’t at all!
My Fiance called at around 6:30 and told me to meet him at his house at 8:00 and to just go in the house if he doesn’t answer the door.
As I was getting ready to leave, my mom suggested that I freshen up a bit. Um, OK, I didn’t think I looked that bad! Again, I didn’t suspect anything.
As I was driving to his house he called and told me to just go inside and stay in the living room that he wanted to surprise me with his costume. His house right now is being completely gutted and remodeled so there’s dust and wood and drywall and paint cans everywhere – in other words a mess. I opened the door and yelled that I was there and he yelled back down the stairs that he would be down in a minute.
I went into the living room and there were candles lit and it was cleaned up rather nicely. I thought it was quite romantic but didn’t suspect anything at all!
My Fiance came down the stairs wearing a tuxedo and looked rather dapper. Ok, he looked completely HOT!
I asked if that was his costume, as I was kind of confused – he didn’t wear a tux to work at the restaurant. He said it was his costume. I asked “what are you – a waiter?” He said “no, I’m a groom!”
It took me a minute to figure out what was going on, meanwhile he grabbed a bouquet of flowers he had on the side and walked over to me (I was sitting on the couch).
I started shaking as he got down on one knee and started saying all these wonderful things – none of which I actually remember! and I was crying hysterically. I am not one to cry so I think he was shocked to see me so emotional!
I remember him saying he was going to wait until Christmas, but seeing how I was so upset about my job, he didn’t want to wait.
I had been upset when we went ring shopping a couple of times that we didn’t like the same styles and I was very afraid of him picking out something I wouldn’t like, as I really didn’t even know for sure what I did like! His sister – my friend – told me he has bought a ring (I did not tell him she told me that) and she said I wouldn’t like the ring.
He blew me away with what he picked out! I couldn’t have picked out a more beautiful ring! The center diamond is a .85 carat J, SI1 with medium blue florescence. He told me that I can return if if I didn’t like it, and it was so cute how he explained how he saw this ring and thought it was so beautiful and unique. He was so worried about me not liking it. I absolutely love it!
He had brought home dinner from the restaurant so we had a romantic dinner before we started calling everyone. He had called my parents earlier yesterday to tell them his plans — that’s why my mom told me not to wear my costume and to freshen up before I went over to his house!
It’s been a day now and the shock has not worn off! We are meeting out families tonight for dinner to celebrate!
