This happened today:
which is so surprising and wonderful, given that I have PCOS and needed fertility treatments for my last pregnancy, and this one just happened naturally (even though I’m still BFing). I’m estimating I’m about 8 – 9 weeks along.
Anyway, here’s the stupid question part — now what? I just moved to a new area and had made an appointment with a gynecologist (who is also an OB) for my annual exam in early September. Should I just wait until that appointment to have them give me a blood test? Or should I call the office and try to schedule an earlier appointment?
Now that I’m writing this out it seems obvious I should just call the office and let them know that I think I’m pregnant & see what they say. I guess I am just kind of in shock and not thinking clearly. 🙂

That’s so exciting! Congratulations! I have a cousin in her mid-thirties with PCOS who didn’t think she would be able to conceive and recently learned that not only was she pregnant, she was in the second trimester. I think you should go ahead and move up your appointment.

Congrats! I would call the office on Monday so they can do a blood test to confirm. Makes me hopeful for after I get off birth control.

stillme: Congrats! I would think your doctor would want to know ASAP.

stillme: Congrats! I would go ahead and call – I know in general they would likely just change your annual appointment to your first prenatal appointment, but maybe with your PCOS they’ll want to see you sooner? I’d call and see what they want you to do.

You are all right– I will call on Monday. Hopefully they can move up the appointment.

If you think you’re already 8-9 weeks along they will probably do an ultrasound to confirm.

stillme: Congratulations!!! I used ovulation-stimulating drugs to get pregnant with PCOS and I always kind of thought I’d just go off BCP after my twins are born and let nature make the decision for me. Good to know it can happen! I’d call your doctor right away, I don’t know if you used progesterone supplments for your first but if your PCOS includes low progesterone production they might want to put you on that asap. Wishing you an awesome pregnancy!!

i was a surprise pcos pregnancy too! i didn’t know my last period, and they had me in to do a dating u/s and blood test right away (they thought i was closer to 8 weeks, i was only 5 weeks). i was still getting negative pee tests and really didn’t think i was pregnant so i was a bit pushier and wanted to find out what was wrong. they got me in right away for that blood test though!
