Hi, I’m a long time lurker and recently engaged! (12/27/16) I was so surprised and just love telling the story.
My now fiancé and I have been together for about 3.5 years and have been talking about seriously getting married for probably about year, and he said he would propose in the year 2016. As the year came to an end, I told him not to rush because we have both been busy and it’s fine if it takes a little longer. I also didn’t think he had the ring. WRONG!
He bought the ring back in July while I was visiting my sister in California. This week I’ve been visiting my parents for the holidays and he has been in cahoots with my two sisters and mom planning the whole thing. For a “Christmas gift”, my mom took the four of us out for mani-pedis because he knew I wanted my nails done. I wasn’t that suspicious of this. So Tuesday the 27th rolls around and he comes and visits me at my mom’s house. We play telestrations with my family for about an hour and he’s had the ring in his pocket the whole time, keeping completely calm. Around 3, I suggest we take our dog and my mom’s dog on a walk, which is a daily thing for us. I fell right into his trap. When he said “Can you believe we’ve been together almost four years.” And then “Will you look at me for a minute?” in the middle of the street, I figured it out. He proposed halfway through the walk! He knows I love dogs so, so much and wanted them to be a part of it. Of course I said yes.
That evening, he and my sisters arranged a lovely dinner to celebrate with all of my family and all of his, another surprise.
Then we came back and topped the night off with a Harry Potter board game I received for Christmas.
It was very me and perfectly orchestrated. I just can’t believe he got away with it!
OH and we already had plans to go to Chicago for NYE with all of our friends. The whole thing was planned months ago, little did I know it was meant to be a celebration of our engagement. He was so sneaky!
And the good part, here’s the ring:
