Over the weekend I called 20 or so bridal salons in PA/NJ/NY/DE and at least 5 of them told me “we dont have plus size in that style but you can bring someone who can wear a standard size of 6/8. They can try the dress on and you can see what it looks like.” WTH????
I guess if I had a mini me it MIGHT look the same.
Anyone else run into this?

That is completely ridiculous! The whole reason you want to try on the dress instead of just looking at the photo of the model is to see how it looks on YOU! If you get told that again, I would ask “well, how would that help me see what the dress would look like on my body type? Maybe you should get a broader range of sizes for brides to try on.”

That is offensive. Don’t patronize these salon. There are plenty of good salons for full-figured brides.

Ridiculous. Bring your business elsewhere.

That’s ridiculous. Even someone the same weight as you wouldn’t be the same body type, so there’s no way that someone a different size would give you any idea of how you would look in a dress.
There’s a reason everyone says you have to try dresses on because they look different on everyone and they’re all cut differently (some are roomier in the hips while others are roomier in the bustline, etc).
One option if you’re getting this from multiple places is to try on a dress in your size with a similar silhouette so you can see if you like it shapewise – then you could see the dress you like in person and see if you like the details as much as you do in pictures – of course you still don’t get to try the actual dress on but that might be a last resort. Sorry these places are making your search so difficult (they obviously aren’t trying to make any money) 🙂

please don’t do it! the dress won’t look the same on another person even if both of you are of the same size!!!
