We just got a new surround sound system and my dog seemed a bit concerned about the new noises. I’m wondering if she will settle down and get used to it – or if there is a new decible range that’s uncomfortable for her.
Prior to this, we just had sound coming from the TV and she wouldn’t pay attention to much (other than the infrequent doorbell sound or siren). Now she seems alert to just about anything – I’m guessing the sounds are being thrown around the room at different frequencies which is tripping her out!
Any thoughts, my dog owner bees?

If my pets get used to it, yours should too :). We’ve had ours a few months now.
My dog gets startled easily. First time the bass came on she ran across the room, not caring she was tripping over things, & ran to me shaking. I laughed & felt bad at the same time. I pet her & told her it would be okay in a calm soothing voice. After that, if there was gunfire or loud bangs or planes flying around, for about the first week she’d run to me scared. I pet her, then made her lay down. I didn’t make a big fuss about it so she could see that I was calm & not scared. I think it took about a week for her to adjust. Now sounds that sometimes make me jump, she just ignores it. I mean maybe every once in awhile she’ll react by moving across the room. Or coming & laying next to me but otherwise she’s used to it.
My cats… uggg I never know with them. First time they were playing & all just froze on sight. They didn’t know which way to go, just kinda headed left, right, left RUN! Second time they ran full speed into hiding. Its been a few weeks, they rarely react now. I watched a loud movie with gunfire & loud cars & they just slept :). However, sometimes a noise will scare them & they’ll run out of the room, but its not very often.

@canthugallcats: thanks! that gives me hope. last night, she didn’t seem as bothered by it – but, again, it wasn’t on very loud. time will tell 🙂
