I just got a 2014 Acura MDX and I love it! It gets the best gas mileage of any 3 row SUV on the market. We can get 29 mpg on trips. I would look at consumer reports. They just recently stopped recommending a few SUVs due to their safety rating. I think one of them is the Honda Pilot.

my mother has a hyundai tuscon. this is her second one, and she loves it. it gets great gas mileage (compared to my father’s bigger ford edge), and it’s a good size. we can fit the whole family in there if we have to.

I have a Toyota Highlander and Darling Husband has a GMC Terrain. Both are nice IMO, and we’ve had very limited issues with both (knock on wood). The Highlander is quite a bit larger than the Terrain, but definitely doesn’t get very good gas mileage. I belive both of them are ranked very high in safety though.

I have a 2000 Nissan Xterra that I love. Its definitely way more truck like than a typical SUV, but almost everything I sat in was too small for me when I went car shopping a few weeks ago. I sat in EVERYTHING and didn’t like anything, then sat in a new version of my car and went THIS is what I want. The Highlander was the only other one I remotely liked and this is after I spent years lusting after 4runners. Ceiling is too low.

Anyway my car has 182000 on it and we decided to keep it til it dies. I have never had a major (or any) engine issue and I suck at changing the oil regularly. The AC has gone out which I believe is a common issue in that year (first year they made it), but the issue has been fixed in newer models. The MPG is truck like, so worse than a mid sized, but worth it to me.

I drive a 2001 Ford Escapw and I love my baby. I brought it when I needed something with 4 wheel drive. The gas mileage was alright but was comfortable to drive for 10 hour drives several times a year. As well as roomy enough to fit what I needed it to in order to move. I recently drove the new model and liked it just as much as the old model.

2012 Chevy Traverse and love it.  Only it goes to the shop is for oil changes and tire rotations.  I love the fact it has 3rd row seating and can use it for everything we use it for.

I bought a 2009 Lincoln MKX a month ago!  It has everything I wanted and runs great!  The gas mileage isn’t awesome – 18-20mpg – but I love having the AWD option for our Michigan winters and I feel so safe!

I’ve had two SUVS:

1998 Isuzu Rodeo – it’s actually my dad’s now, and at 16 years it is only now starting to have a lot of problems. Moot point since I believe Isuzu pulled out of the US market a few years ago.

2005 Honda CR-V – I like it. I have had no mechanical problems in the 2 years I’ve had it, there was a small issue with the A/C but it was a minor fix. I haven’t calculated the MPG but it’s much better than the Rodeo was. A quick googling says 20 city, 26 highway. I imagine with newer models it’s probably better.
