- Wedding: July 2014
I’ve been hanging around reading the forums for a while, but I finally got around to joining so I figured I’d post my proposal as I thought it was really sweet!
Fiance and I are both weird about numbers and we had talked about what day we would want to get married for a while before we got engaged because we both wanted our favorite numbers involved (mine is 7, his is 18). That left us with the obvious July (7) 18th, and since neither of us like the number 5, we figured it would be 2014. Yes, numbers are that important in our lives 😛
Anyway, Fiance took a couple days off before winter break (he’s a teacher) so that we could go visit my parents early and spend a few more days with them before we left on our road trip to bring my car back to Massachusetts where we live. I had been hoping we would get engaged that trip so I could celebrate with my parents, but the ring we had picked out together was supposedly not in yet so I let go of that notion pretty quickly.
So on December 18th, our first day back in California, we decide to go up to my next door neighbors farm, which is one of my favorite places. Afterwards, we start walking back towards my house and I notice there’s a table set up in the backyard with fine china, sparkling cider (I don’t drink, so my version of champagne) in wine glasses, lit candles, and pakoras (a favorite of mine and FIs). I can see the table from a distance, but I had no idea what was going on. All I could think was “why is the table set for two when there’s five of us at home right now?” 😛
As we finally get to the back patio, Fiance nervously stops and starts talking about how it’s a special day and do I know what the date is. All I’m thinking is “it’s the 17th? No, the 18th…what’s so special about that?” lol and then he’s like “It’s exactly 7 months before we want to get married” and gets down on his knee–right where we’re planning on standing as we say our vows. Oh, man, I was freaking out. I was so excited, bees. I didn’t know it felt that crazy and amazing! He pulled out a box from his coat pocket and in it was my ring! He told me how much he loved me and that he wanted to spend his life with me (etc, but I won’t go into the mushy stuff :P) and asked me if I wanted to marry him. I, of course, said yes!
Apparently, in order to surprise me, Fiance had enlisted the help of my parents to set up the table and get the food, but also the help of my uncle! The ring shop was two hours away from us, but near my uncle so he picked it up when it came in (finally! it actually did come in late lol) for Fiance. When we went down to visit my grandfather and uncle in Connecticut before we left for California, my uncle apparently snuck the ring to Fiance while I was busy talking to my grandfather. Sneaky, sneaky! 😛
Now for the ring (sorry it’s not a great picture…cell phone pictures don’t turn out well)! It’s a Mark Schneider “Bloom” to symbolize us growing together and growing together towards God. Also, I’m a nature girl, so there’s that too. It’s kind of hard to tell in this picture, but it looks like a flower and the band has leaves!
Anyway, good job if you could get through all that! I know it’s long, but it all feels so important and special! Have a great day, Bees!
