I’m so glad I found this thread! My fiance and I booked a Mexican Honeymoon cruise with stops at 3 ports. I was beginning to think that I was being too paranoid for wanting to cancel. Honeymoon is not till August but I’m just worried. I’m going to call tomorrow to see if we can cancel or keep my fingers crossed.

at the moment we are still planning for Playa del Carmen in mid-June. The airlines will allow you to rebook if you have travel scheduled to Mexico before May 4th. Since our honeymoon isn’t until June we kinda have to wait it out. The latest advise from my CDC friend is to look into a backup plan/location just in case but he feels it will be ok to travel there by June. So we’re just watching and waiting…. I’m not stressed about it at the moment. It’s one of those things that is what it is…we’ll take a week’s vacation to somewhere after the wedding, we just might not know where until 2 weeks before 🙂
@greencardwedding – where in Playa del Carmen are you guys headed?

Ggsb…check out the other thread I started on this..seems some honeymooners contracted it in Cancun. They were from Scotland.

We booked our honeymoon to Secrets Maroma Beach the day before the media went wild with this whole swine flu thing. We did purchase trip insurance, so if we need to cancel we get a full refund. All I can say is that this damn thing better be cleared up by October–because I’m really looking forward to this trip!!!

axwinelover – we’re going there too!!! well, we had planned on it. we are considering alternatives, but i really really want to go there and deep down think that we would be fine. i don’t know, i think i will leave it up to my FH because i can’t deal with it on top off all the wedding stuff at this point (wedding is May 23rd, honeymoon planned for 5/23-6/1)

We don’t have the luxury of rescheduling becuase we’re flying to Boston for the wedding from Australia then planned our honeymoon directly after and then a few days after we fly back to Aus. At this stage American Airlines if not offering change of plans for our dates (end of June). We can cancel The Royal Playa del Carmen no worries, but will lose $900 on airfare. We purchases trip insurance in Aus to cover all the flights from the time we leave Australia, but when I read the pds it does not cover cancellation due to epidemic or pandemic and when I booked teh pakage on Expedia I declined the cancel anytime insurance since I already had purchase insurnace for our entire journey.
We are so dissapointed and honestly I am a bit concerned about being able to fly from Aus to USA at all becuase of this as the Aus goes a little psycho about disease.

Well… Heidi and Spencer went through with their Mexico trip. Check out this picture! http://www.people.com/people/gallery/0,,20275289_20615105,00.html
As it gets closer, AA may change their policies. The American news stations are saying that many airlines are offering cancellations and changes to flight plans for travelers this week. Hang in there and stay flexible!

We cancelled our honeymoon plans to Mexico, the day we were going to book was the day they announced the flu.
The best bang for our buck was a trip to Mexico. It’s been hard to find anything comparable.

This may be a stupid question but, where can you get masks? I’m flying in a week (not to Mexico, just from NY to CA) but my mom really wants me to get a mask, just in case. Is this something you can pick up from a drugstore?

- Wedding: July 2020 - Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa
It’s usually something you can pick up in the drugstore, but they are selling out quickly.

I’m lucky. I have a mask from my old job. Kept it sealed in a box..N95 mask. Perfect!
Btw, in georgia, our first reported case was from a woman from Kentucky who had been vacationing in Cancun…
What bothers me honestly about this, is having been many times to Cancun and the Mayan Riviera, is that it’s usually very very clean and nice imho at the resorts. This tells me it’s the workers or staff who might be bringing it in. Now that possibility does bother me.
I won’t be headed there any time soon you can bet. T and I will probably go the route of the Virgin Islands or St. Kitts or St. Lucia next..but this summer for our family vacay, we’re going to Pensacola at my all time fav condo…the Portofino!

My Fsil a dentist said after 30mins you need to change your mask if you’re going to wear a surgcal one becasue it will get moist from your breath then actually attract more germs. Just something to think about.
We”re still hoping by the end of June it will be Ok so we don’t have to change our honeymoon plans (and lose money).

If you’re looking for a good replacement, just come to Miami! It’s just as pretty and very few people speak English, so it’s almost the same thing! Except we don’t have a terrifying disease running rampant, so that’s a plus. I mean, not that I know of, but I actually live in the county just north of Miami so who knows. Also, no passport needed, which is nice.
In all seriousness, I’m sorry to all who have to change their honeymoon plans 🙁 hopefully it clears up soon! I’m going to San Diego for mine in January, so hopefully it won’t be a problem at that point. I agree with a few of you, I would totally wear a mask on the airplane. It’s very common in other parts of the world, I’ve seen pictures and videos of people in Japan wearing them on their daily commutes.
