I’ve been arguing with myself about adding straps or a bolero to my mermaid dress – with or without, I just couldn’t get it out of my head that something was not right about that dress for me. I loved all the elements of it – the taffeta, the bubble hem, the pleats. So what was wrong?
I went back to David’s Bridal today and figured it out. It’s not that it’s strapless. I do strapless sundresses, why not a wedding dress?
No, it’s that it was too sexy. The mermaid fit. I know it doesn’t look at all sexified to most people but it does to me. My booty looks awesome in that dress, but I don’t want to emphasize my booty on my wedding day. There’s no way around it. It’s the SHAPE of the dress that’s a problem for me, and I can’t fix that with any bolero or straps. I think I look great in that dress, but I don’t think it’s right for me for my formal church wedding full of family.
I tried on 8 more dresses today, in all different silhouettes, and ballgowns are it. Strapless or without straps, the ballgown is what works for me.
So here we have 2 dresses. You probably haven’t seen either one this way…
White by Vera Wang VW351096: This is the one you’d normally see in pink print, but I haven’t found a single photo of it in IVORY anywhere on the interwebs! Here I am:
It’s taffeta with a tulle layer under the train. I love the draping, the ruffle at the bust, the ivory buttons, the volume of the skirt. This is the less expensive one.
Now here’s the goody – a NEW VERA that’s not even on the DB website yet! I am the first person to try on the sample in the store. Of course this is the more expensive, but here goes:
This baby is all tulle, draping that mimics the first one, and so pretty princess. The blingy bow at the waist is fun and will rock with the gray and ivory pearl necklace I have. Bonus that it has straps – though that’s no point against the taffeta one. This is a LOT more $$$ though.
(I thought you guys might like to see the brand new Vera anyway.)
So this is what I’m thinking about tonight. What are you thinking?
