So I’ve been wanting to find a way to spice up my table decor a bit as right now we are using ivory table cloths, ivory chair covers and my centerpieces will be ivory pomander balls in vases/on candlestics. They will be sitting on mirrored tiles and surrounded by 3 votive candles (provided by venue). The vases and candlesticks will be either coral or light teal (our wedding colors). I am hoping to incorporate more coral and teal into the table or possibly some gold as we are having our wedding in a ballroom that is mostly gold and has gold-edged mirrors on all the walls.
All this to say, I have considered charger plates but not sure they are the most economical. I also had another idea of potentially using large paper doilies in place of charger plates but want to know if this is an absolutely ridiculous idea :). Please tell me if you think it is! If I did this, do you think it would be possible to dye/paint paper doilies because I’ve only seen them in white.
Or if anyone has any other ideas for how to add a pop of color that will still keep an elegant ballroom feel it would be much appreciated!

Charger plates always go on sale after Christmas. I think I got mine for like a dollar or a dollar fifty from Bed, Bath and Beyond.

@EffieTrinket: I had thought about that as I know gold will probably be on sale after Christmas but did you have any trouble with quantity? We are going to have probably 175-200 guests and I wasn’t sure if I would have trouble finding that many after Christmas once they are on a good sale.

@Whitney818: I was able to snag 150 with no problem. I’d offer to sell them to you if my date weren’t after yours. But maybe someone on OnceWed or Ebay or Craigs has some listed for even cheaper than sale.

There are gold chargers for sale for as little as 50 cents each on craigslist:
Are the mirror tiles all the same shape and size? You could get old picture frames at thrift shops and spray paint them gold. Place them on top or surrounding the mirror tile depending on the size of the frame.
I love the look of doilies or scrapbook paper used instead of chargers.
Here they used a white doily, wrote the names on the doily to serve double duty as a placecard, then topped the doily with a clear glass plate used as a charger.
This is a square of scrapbook paper on top of a colored cloth with the aqua napkin on the plate. They also used a patterned runner.
Teal and coral print scrapbook paper would be a great pop of color.
This doily is currently sold out but hopefully will come back in stock
If you can find teal or coral doilies, look how pretty they are used as a runner.

@EffieTrinket: Thanks for the suggestions! I acutally haven’t checked out oncewed so I think I’ll give that a try! Luckily there’s still a good amount of time for me to be on the lookout for a great deal!
@julies1949: Thanks for all the great pictures and suggestions! They actually all look so much like the style I am going for with my wedding!! Even if I don’t use scrapbook paper for placemats I may have to buy that book of papers for all sorts of wedding decor since the colors are perfect 🙂
