So PenguinGuy and I want to do something a little different from the normal table numbering. That and my family tends to get kind of testy if they think they are being slighted, and oh goodness the drama of being uncle larry being seated at table 17 while cousin betty is at table 9? Gah! When my sister got married a couple of years ago she and her husband used the names of planets from one of their favorite book series, Dune, to combat this potential drama.
Right now PenguinGuy and I are tossing around a couple of ideas for table names. Our biggest problem is that we are going to have about 35 tables! Our ideas so far inclue
1. various words like “love”, “happiness”, etc in Latin and Greek as we are both HUGE dorks when it comes to Latin and Greek and between synonyms and the two languages we should be able to find 35 wedding appropriate words.
2. Our favorite authors/book titles. Again, we are both really into reading and books.
3. Our favorite mathematicians/scientists. Yeah, we are both engineers and very proud of our nerdiness!
4. If we end up doing a road-trip honeymoon, some of the cities we will drive through during the trip. Unfortunately, I don’t think we are going to have the time to do a road trip.
So, what are your thoughts on our above ideas? Any suggestions? What did you do/are you planning to do?

I think all of the above mentioned ways are great! Just pick the one that most resembles ya’lls personalities and go with it! 🙂

Cute ideas! With the latin/greek words, you might just want to be careful that it doesn’t confuse some guests who find it tedious to distinguish between 35 tables with latin/greek words in order to find their own (especially if tipsy – hah!).
We are doing different types of flowers for our tables. It fits because our ceremony & reception are in a rose garden (within an Arboretum). We have 19th century botanical illustrations to use as the “table numbers” and we will reprint those pictures on the seating chart so people can match them up. I was worried about it being confusing, but we tried to get botanical illustrations that look significantly different, and we only have 5 tables.
Your ideas are great!!

I agree with what the others said as well. We are doing a beach wedding, so ours will be named after beaches. I like the Latin idea. Very cool!

I like 1-3! I love the idea of mathmatical signs… never seen that one before!

Do what’s most you. We travel a lot as my Fiance is from France and most of his family is still there and I have tons of family in the States and the UK, so we’re doing different places we’ve been as a couple and at the center of the table will be a photo of us at that place.

- Wedding: April 2010 - Signature Events
I’ve seen #2 work really well over at Wbee Pro. Just lovely! #1 and #3 are such unique ideas, though—I’d get a kick out of those as a guest!

Great ideas – I especially like the book titles, as I can invision the centerpieces… stacks of books, book-ends, old school library check-out cards, etc. Lots of options! 🙂

I love all the ideas you listed. I think you should pick whatever one goes with the rest of your theme/decor.

you could combine 2 and 3 and do your favorite historical figures. We’re having an irish themed wedding with an irish rock band so we’re going to do counties of ireland. 🙂
