    Depends, how much is the fee for renting tables?   I like circular tables better, guests are less squished, easier for guests to talk and its better to photograph people on circular tables.  But I have been seeing some great things with rectanglular tables on blogs recently.  So if the fee is managable and you feel it is worth it, go for the circular!

    It depends on price to rent (and if you have the extra money), type of venue, and what kind of feel your going for with your wedding.

    I’ve seen some really amazing farm/rustic/backyard type weddings that had rectangle tables and it looked amazing.  I’ve also seen the same thing with round tables.

    I think it comes down to the space and what feel your going for.  I went for round tables because I had a smaller guest list and a bigger area to work with I felt that round tables filled the space better than long rectangular tables.

    Free = the way to go. Tell me if you ever paid attention to the table shapes at the weddings you have attended in the past.

    I prefer circular tables because you can have better conversation at a table. But depending on the price, I wouldn’t pay a whole lot extra for them.

    Free!

    With circles you can’t really talk to the people across from you anyway.  It’s usually just the people on either side.  I was going to do a mix of both at my wedding, but ended up not being able to configure the tables so I had to opt for all circles.  I was bummed.

    I love the idea of the rectangles and think it will be lovely!  Go for it!

    There are some GORGEOUS weddings with rectangular tables!  Go with the free. It’ll allow you to spend that money on decorating the tables! I think it will be great fun!

    I actually love rectangle tables! We have free use of rounds and we are also renting a couple rectangle ones.. we are going with a mixed look 🙂

    We actually chose rectangle tables because we found them to be more modern. I don’t think it takes away from the formality at all, and pengoala posted some gorgeous examples. Plus, you can scale down your centerpieces!

    I prefer rectangular tables and I’m going to be using them myself if I can make the layout work. I agree with PP’s who commented that they feel a little more modern. Plus if you have the space to run a couple of them together, to create seating for 20 or so people at a time, it gives you more flexibility if you have to seat larger groups and would rather not split them up. For example, we both have several large groups of friends who are all very close with each other; so instead of splitting my 14-person group of design school friends & spouses into one eight-person round and sticking a pair of stragglers with the other six, I can put all 14 at one table and still have room for 6 more people who might have some acquaintance with each other.

    I agree it depends on the price.  I prefer circular, but my venue (which I love) has square or rectangular or nothing.  So square it is for us!  Ours will be tables of 8 and I don’t think anyone will mind.  If we have a higher than expected RSVP rate, we’ll go rectangular.  I sure wouldn’t mind as a guest either way.

    @pengoala:  NICE!

    I prefer rectangular! I don’t have a great pic of our guest tables (pro pics aren’t in yet) but here’s our sweetheart table. It’s just a scaled down version of the guest tables. (the little one is my husband’s baby cousin)
