WOOHOOOO! We are engaged!
Hope all you bees are doing well, and I apologize for posting this so late because I was proposed to on May 25th! Haven’t gotten around to it til now, but I am so excited to share my proposal story!
On Sunday, May 25th my Fiance (ooooh, I can call him that now! still getting used to it) and I had a nice breakfast at our usual place, and then headed out to one of my most favorite places, the DIA (Detroit Institute of Arts). I have always loved going there for art classes in highschool, and now as an adult to enjoy the beautiful art there. I can’t say going here was his idea, and I “planted the seed” if you will and suggested we go here on one of our days off. (I secretly hoped he would catch on and figure out that it was my dream to be proposed to there…) And this was after Mother’s Day in which we went to the beach and I actually noticed the ring box in his pocket! After freaking out all day it didn’t happen…But I am glad it didn’t because I would have expected it and it wouldn’t have been as amazing as how it really happened 🙂
Anyway, as we are driving there it was very quiet in the car. Just the radio on.. Little did I know it was because he was nervous.. Aw 🙂 And also on the car ride there, he tells me, “I’m not proposing to you today, just so you know. Don’t want you to get your hopes up and think about it all day.” UGH! I was a little disappointed, but knew him well enough to know that either he was being serious, or he was saying it to throw me off.
So we arrive at the DIA and it is a BEAUTIFUL day. Sunny, not a cloud in the sky. And before we walk in, he says he wants to go take a photo by the “Thinker” statue outside in front of the institute (Detroiters will know what this statue is). And he had mentioned it a few times before we even went, so I knew he REALLY wanted to take a photo by this thing, didn’t know why. But it was funny, because he kept asking me if I wanted to take the photo now or after we went through the institute (which was also because he was nervous, and wanted to put it off a little longer – he told me later that he almost chickened out but knew it was the perfect moment and he couldn’t pass it up) but I said, “Oh, we can just do it now.” So I pass my phone to a woman with her family and ask her to take our photo.
I get positioned to take the photo, and then I feel him bend down. For a fleeting moment I thought he dropped something or had to tie his shoe, but when I looked up, oh I KNEW. Yet I still asked him, “What are you doing?… WHAT are you DOING?!” He is bent down on one knee and replies, “You know what I’m doing.” And right there, in front of my favorite place, he proposes to me, all nervous and adorable. This part is honestly kind of a blur and I wish I remembered the words he said but I was crying so hard and my heart was beating so fast! I hardly remember saying yes or holding my hand out so he could put the ring on. But I did, I said YES!
Meanwhile, the lady taking our photo looks to her family and says “Oh my god, is he propsosing? HE’S PROPOSING.” and continues to take several photos over and over. So I have the entire thing on camera! It is so special. And she was so excited about it that she asked to take a photo of us when she saw us later. Such a funny detail about the day.
So after I dry my tears and calm down a little, we go inside and I actually get a good look at my ring. It is THE MOST beautiful ring I have ever seen. And EXACTLY what I wanted. Oval cut, rose gold with a halo and scalloped shank (from Tacori). I couldn’t believe this is the ring I get to wear the rest of my life (and still can’t!). Then we went into the institute and enjoyed our day, occassionally stopping to call friends and family about the great news. I can’t wait to marry my man!
It really was a magical day and I’m happy to finally be able to share with you all! Thanks for reading 🙂
