It’s official – I’m engaged!
MJ managed to surprise me with the proposal, which is what he wanted, even though we’d designed the ring together. I inadvertantly ruined his first two tries that weekend, but the third time’s the charm I guess!
On Friday, MJ and I took separate cars to work so that he could pick up my finished ring at the jewellers – again (the ring was supposed to be ready the Friday before, but wasn’t).
He called me at 5:30PM saying he’d had a terrible day at work and wasn’t going to get to the store before it closed. I was disappointed, but figured he could just as easily go get it on Saturday. But MJ said he didn’t feel like going to go to the jeweller on Saturday, so as far as I knew he wasn’t getting the ring that weekend. I was a little miffed – I felt like “he’s not even excited to go get the ring. He obviously isn’t planning anything for this weekend. Sigh … Unless *tiny eternal glimmer of hope* he actually already has it??? I better act unsuspecting, just in case.”
*First try* MJ suggested we make lobster raviolli for dinner (my man can COOK! It’s his thing) but by the time we got home from running errands on Saturday it was too late to start making pasta, filling, … so I suggested we eat leftovers from the fridge in front of the tv, make the raviolli later and eat it for dinner on Sunday. He agreed but looked disappointed. He’d wanted to propose that night during a romantic dinner.
*Second try* We were a go for raviolli that night. But first, we spent the day gardening, me with my hands and nails full of dirt. MJ says it was the only time he’d seen me garden without gloves on and he couldn’t believe I was ruining my nails on this of all days! hahaha. After a long hot day outside, I wanted a shower before dinner. It was around 7pm, so I just put my PJs on afterward and suggested we eat our raviolli in front of the tv – I was tired. Poor MJ – foiled again!
*Third try* After dinner, MJ suggested we go for a walk to get gelato for dessert (this was his way of getting me out of PJs. lol). So I changed. When I came downstairs, he was spooning icecream into bowls. “I thought we were going for gelato? You promised me gelato” and I dumped the ice cream back in the container (so sassy!). MJ looked exasperated. I said “I’m just going to put this load of laundry in to wash and we’ll go.”
When I came back upstairs, MJ said “I decided I really want icecream. This one is for you.” He pushed my bowl toward me and there was an icecream and chocolate chip cookie sundae – with my beautiful canary diamond ring as the cherry on top!
I gasped and cried as he dropped to one knee. I don’t remember what he said, but we ended up hugging and crying. Then he asked if I wanted to look at the ring. I’d completely ignored it ’till then. lol. He slipped it on my finger and we spent the rest of the evening telling our parents the exciting news!
