- Wedding: May 2014 - Madison, WI
Well I guess I didn’t have to wait long bees, I’m engaged! I knew the proposal would be soon because he bought the ring Saturday but it needed to be sized and they made sure I wouldn’t know when the ring would be ready so it would still be a surprise. All along I thought for sure he was going to propose on our camping trip Memorial Weekend, but I was wrong! LOL.
Last night SO (now FI!!) came over for dinner and afterwards mentioned how it was such a nice night that we should go out for a walk. So he told me to put on comfortable shoes and that we could drive somewhere for a short hike. We got in the car and started driving downtown…I really wasn’t sure where we were going at this point. I was suspicious at this point but really not sure. He mentioned going to Memorial Union on campus and I though well he wouldn’t do it there would he? We have spent time there but it’s not particularly special to us (neither of us actually attended UW-Madison) and another couple I know had gotten engaged there.
But we ended up driving right past the union, at this point I pointed out we were not far from Picnic Point where we walked to on our first date and actually hadn’t been back to since. He acted all cool like “oh really?, you’re right…want to walk there tonight?” So he parked the car and we walked out there together. I was definitely having the feeling something was up at this point! However, when we reached the very end of Picnic Point there was a huge cookout going on with students having a small bonfire! So it was loud and a bit crowded. He seemed a little disappointed. We sat there for awhile though and enjoyed the beautiful views over Lake Mendota. Then he said maybe we should start heading back to the car.
We took a different trail back and around half way back there was a secluded bench that overlooked the lake…he stopped there and pretended to stumble/trip, and when I was turning around to see what he was up to he was on one knee in the dirt trail proposing! Of course I said YES!!!
We are so happy and excited!! Thank You Bees for being here for my waiting – it wasn’t long but I loved the support and knowing I wasn’t alone!
Now for some photos!
A Picture of me before the proposal wondering what was going on…(Personal Photos)
Us together in the spot he proposed! Not the best but it was self taken!
And of course…some of the ring!!
