Today was finally the day! Our engagement wasn’t a huge surprise to me; we had already talked about it happening and I picked out the ring setting myself. But, bees, I was totally floored that he did it today and SO surprised how he did it.
My SO woke me up this morning to say he was going to head to the gym and kissed me goodbye while I was still in bed. I went back to sleep for another half hour and finally decided to get up and start getting ready to start my day. When I walked out into the hallway there was an envelope and a single rose on the floor. My heart immediately started racing because this wasn’t typical behavior. I opened up the envelope and inside was a handwritten note in the form of a clue. It led me to clues and roses all over the house, to the stoop of my old house two blocks over, and even down the street to the coffee shop where one of the baristas who knows both of us had stashed a rose and an envelope away. All of these places were ones that meant something to us. I knew something was up by that point, so I was already dressed in a cute outfit, but I was shocked that the last clue led me to my parents’ house.
They live in the next city over, so the entire time I was driving my thoughts were racing that this might be it. I pull into their driveway and go into the backyard like the clue tells me to, and there is my handsome SO dressed up and waiting for me. My parents have a beautiful backyard and it just happened to be gorgeous today. We were both already giggling because we were nervous and excited. I don’t remember exactly all of his words, but he said that he loved me and got down on one knee and asked if I would be his wife.
Of course I said yes, and we go inside where my parents have been watching the whole time and taking pictures! He had planned this entire thing and EVERYONE knew but me. I was (and still am) so shocked.
My ring is beautiful. It’s an antique white gold setting that I picked out when we were ring shopping, and he picked the stone out himself (1.38 carat medium green sapphire). I’m going to give my sweet Fiance a break and wait a few weeks before we start looking at dates, but I am one lucky lady and I’m so excited!
