Hi Bees! We are taking a modest honeymoon to Virginia Wine Country for 5 days. We are limited on time moreso than cash, and I was feeling pretty down about it. But I am starting to look forward to it more.
Is anyone else taking a mini-moon or a modest honeymoon? If so….
Where to?
How long?
What are you most looking forward to?
Have you ever been there before?

We are! We’re trying to save up for a house so didn’t want to spend very much on the wedding/honeymoon.
We currently live in Atlanta, GA but we’ve been here for less than a year, so the whole area is new to us. We are mini-mooning on the coast – 3 days in Savannah, GA and 2 days in Jekyll Island, GA. We are going to stay in nice hotels, get a couple’s massage, go out to eat, take a tour of haunted buildings in Savannah (my fiancee is ghost-obsessed), probably do a little shopping, then relax on the beach and hike some easy trails along the coast. And all-in-all it shouldn’t cost too much over $1k. Perfect!

Haha! I’m a date AND mini moon twin!
We are having our wedding in Boston but then his parents are hosting a 2nd reception in the midwest a week later for their large family and elderly family members because of the travel issue.
So for the week in between, we’re going to a Hot Springs Spa in New Mexico. Very modest. Nothing fancy. I plan on sitting in the hot water and eating Mexican food all week 🙂
We are planning on going to the World Cup in Brazil in 2014, so it didn’t make sense to splurge on a honeymoon.

@moonadea:
Sounds awesome! We are also planning on doing the couple’s massage, some shopping, a ghost tour, and just relax after the crazy day!

I’ve already been on our mini-moon, but I’ll mini-recap it :).
We went to a bed and breakfast on the Bourbon Trail in Kentucky, and we stayed for two nights and three days.
The best part about it was honestly just resting after all of the wedding. There was a jacuzzi in the room, and that was incredibly awesome. It was also the first trip Darling Husband and I had ever taken together, so that was great too! The tour of a bourbon distillery was also more interesting than I thought it would be since I don’t drink the stuff :).
And nope, that was our first time. It probably won’t be our last, though! I highly recommend taking at least a mini moon. I think including gas and spending money, we probably dropped $300 on it.

If fiance’s job goes thru with lay offs then we will definitely be changing our honeymoon to Vegas to most likely Gatlinburg, but I hope that if we plan now we can still afford the Vegas route. 🙂 It would be nice if I could find a travel agency that allows you to make payments on plane tickets. (Dreaming I know) LOL
