(Closed) Taking Dad Dress Shopping?

I have not gone wedding dress shopping, but I know I will take my dad. He went prom dress shopping with me for both of my proms (junior and senior) and helps me pick out clothes. He knows what looks good on me, and prevents me from being impulsive. My mom will also go, but she just doesn’t have tastes that align with mine (also my dad gives me back-up).  I don’t know what it traditional. I think you just have to do what works for your family. Does he want to go? My dad would want to go, but I would never make him if he didn’t because then he would be crabby and unhelpful.

Don’t concern yourself with whether it’s “traditional” or not. If you want to bring your dad, I’m sure he would be absolutely honored to share that experience with you. And that’s what really matters.

FWIW re: “tradition”… I did 100% of my dress shopping with Fiance. Yes, I got comments — no, I did not care.

Honestly, if my Dad lived in MA I would have taken my Dad dress shopping with me. I know that most people bring their moms but I don’t really know my mom for a lot of reasons, and my Dad always played the role of “Daddy- Mom” so if there was anything I could do, it would be an extra trip to CA so I could go dress shopping with my Dad. ๐Ÿ™‚

The first time I just went shopping with my mom as she was in town for a business meeting. The second and third times were during a visit from my parents. For the second appointment my dad planned to wander around the shopping center because he wasn’t that interested, but 15 minutes into my appointment he showed up and started taking pictures of dresses with my mom. He was there for the entire third appointment where I found my dress. He didn’t pull any dresses or really offer opinions, but he took lot of pics and I’m glad we got to share that moment as a family.

My dad came a couple times, but then when my actual dress came in (he wasn’t there for that), he decided he didn’t want to come and would rather wait to see it.

I inadvertently took my dad shopping with me, though I used to think it was weird to take your dad shopping. He had a business trip in the town where the dress shop was, and we decided to save on gas and drive together. I brought my Maid/Matron of Honor too, so my dad dropped us off, went to his meeting, and met us back at the shop. Turns out, after he came back to the shop, the next dress I tried on was the one! Must’ve been fate ๐Ÿ™‚

My Dad came with when my dress first came in (I went with my Mom and two bridesmaids when I bought my dress) and I think that it was a great time for him to see it. All I really did that day was try the dress on and confirm what accessories I wanted to order. So he didn’t have to sit too long watching me shop and try on a ton of dresses.

For most of the dress shopping process, I took my mom and some girl friends. But when it came down to choosing between 3 dresses, I brought my dad back to the salon, just him and me, to pick! ๐Ÿ™‚  I’m definitely a daddy’s girl though, and I couldn’t see doing it any other way!

@chelseakayd:  Oh I really, really want my dad to go, but he HATES shopping and has made it really clear that the experience would not be fun for him.  If you can get him to go, DO IT!

Make sure you check with the store prior to arriving, lots of bridal shops actually don’t allow men, so double check!
