Newly engaged waitress here. When I go to work I wear my ring around my neck on a chain because I don’t want it get dirty, banged up, or have weird stares from older women.
Fiance says it doesn’t bother him, BUT people who know I’m engaged and ask to see my ring seem very put off by the fact that I’m choosing to wear it this way. Am I in the wrong? Is it okay to not wear my ring on the proper finger? Thoughts?

You’re not wrong at all! The only people who can have an opinion on it are you and your fiance.

i rarely wear my engagement ring. i really only wear it when i’m going somewhere.
don’t let anyone judge you for wanting to protect it from damage.

FutureMrsHodgy: I think it’s up to you to wear how you want. I wear my rings on a necklace chain when I am working out in the gym, for the reason I don’t want to scratch them or chip the stone by accidentally hitting it on something.
Why do you get weird stares from older women for wearing your ring, though?

It’s perfectly fine to wear your ring however you want it, I know alot of women who wear their rings like you when at work. You are just as engaged either way. 🙂

emstar168: I had an older lady ask to see my ring (before I thought of wearing it on a necklace) and I overheard her later telling her husband to leave me a lesser tip because “I obviously didn’t need it” That situation made me very uncomfortable.

FutureMrsHodgy: Oh wow. How judgy of her. I wouldn’t even think to decrease the amount of tip based on what I thought their jewelry was worth. IMO, good/great service=tip amount.

Some jobs logistically don’t allow you to wear rings. I think what you’re doing is reasonable.

You are in no way wrong. I am a martial arts instructor and I wear it around my neck when we do punching drills and I think it works better than not wearing it at all.
