Most of the mountain spots with good views are more than 15 mins from downtown. However, you can try one of the bridges that span the LA River in East LA, or the park near Dodger Stadium, or Echo Park. All have fantastic views of the city!

I have yet to find a place that has great views of LA where the weather/smog is not a huge factor. Most of the places high enough and far enough to get a good view of LA in the background are also so far that you can’t see the view most days because of the smog.

We live in the mountains of La Crescenta, which is about 20 minutes from downtown, and there are some great views from here but…not all the time. There are some great views from a park by our house if you want to PM me I can give you the info on that. Also, La Canada Country Club has some good views from their parking lot. There are some great winding roads in La Canada where you could get some great shots but you’d have to drive around a bit to find them.

You may also want to consider actually doing a shoot on the top of a builing downtown, like the Standard. You’d be up close and personal with the scenery. But, this does have a more urban feel than you might be going for.

Let me know if you’d like some additional suggestions. Good luck!
