I feel so naked, but liberated at the same time. I feel like a mommy dare-devil.
Do you dare to leave your diaper bag at home?
At first, we carried it and then didn’t use it. Then it stayed in the car. Now I just leave it at home. We never use anything in the bag and sometimes I give her a cloth to play with in her car seat so it can double as a spit-up rag if needed in an emergency. We have huge one size cloth diapers that don’t leak ever. Other than that…I don’t need anything. I’m wondering when this expensive diaper bag will come in handy. Darling Husband wants to take it as his computer bag since we’re not using it.
Our baby is 3 months old and we only go out for 1-2 hours at a time, but more frequently now.Is this an accident waiting to happen? Am I the only one who doesn’t take their diaper bag on the go? Do you use it often/every time? Will this change as she gets older or are you like me and render it pretty useless in the first few months?

My sister NEVER goes out without a diaper bag because sure enough, they’ll get to where they’re going and my nephew will have pooped up his back and need his clothes changed. 😛

At abour 6 months, we started ditching the diaper bag unless we were going to be out for several hours. Now, I just carry an extra diaper, a bottle of water, a snack container of puffs, and an extra lovey in my purse. Sooooooo much easier than lugging the whole diaper bag around!

I never used one. Just put whatever I needed in my purse.

…asking for trouble
everytime i do (which happened twice and both times I was blocks from home) the baby has some sort situation, like a diaper “explosion” lol

I have a confession, Addie’s never had a “blowout.” Not even once. Maybe that’s why we feel ok about taking her out without a diaper bag, lol!

@808bride: What kind of cloth diapers do you use?
My baby isn’t here yet, but I’m always very paranoid and prepared so the bag will always be with us.

Oh, I am amazed my attitude has changed completely since I was so anal about my diaper bag. I researched all kinds and thanks to Mrs.DG, I found one great for DH’s tastes. Then I carefully made a list (and checked it twice) of all the necessities, kept the list in the diaper bag to double check on each trip out, repacked it for organization purposes…and now I don’t use it. Glad to hear others have experienced ‘downsizing’ early on, as well.
We mainly use BumGenius 4.0. velcro and we also have a few of the snap organic BG. We are still just using the newborn inserts but may have to switch to the other inserts provided with purchase. No leaks yet. She’s had the quantity of blowouts (we’ve used disposables on occasion) but with the cloth, it pools up inside and doesn’t explode out.

@808bride: That’s great to hear, we’re going to be using the same diapers. I hope we won’t have any problems either!

I love my BGs, Fuzzibunz and Oh Katy one size diapers!!! And i literally get an anxiety attack even thinking of forgetting my diaper bag….
However, I’m a coach snob and my mom bought me a super cute coach baby bag that is like a large purse so I kinda like carrying it since it’s not very big as diaper bags go… Maybe I should try to ditch it. We don’t have any blowouts in our cloth either! I need to have many burp/spit up rags with me though since Kayla is a spitter…

We don’t use a stroller. We baby wear, so I just stuff a diaper in the front pocket of baby wearing and we’re good to go. I also have never carried a purse, so maybe I’m just weird. I like to carry as little stuff as possible! We do still bring the diaper bag on longer outings.

I always used the diaper bag because I could take formula, water, bottle, extra pacifier, baby wipes, clothes (my son was drooling so much by 3 months, he’d ALWAYS need a change whenever we stopped… early teether, too), and anything else I needed or wanted. Toys, blanket, bibs, etc etc.
I also typically kept a stocked diaper bag in the car because I’d typically forget it. Same with extra baby wipes. Eventually I’d just grab extra diaper and wipes and that’d be it. Or I’d leave the diapers in the car with wipes, since I’d end up forgetting them, too.
Then again, I didn’t have normal kids (even the pediatrians agreed that I had unusual children…). Each kid is different, so you have to do what’s best for you and your baby.

I don’t have a baby but I think lots of mom’s end up with one all purpose bag, either their purse items live in the diaper bag until the baby is older (like my sister in law does) or the baby items end up crammed in the purse haha. I can see why though, lugging around 2 bags and a stroller/baby/baby in car seat does not seem fun.

My child is almost a year. SOMETIMES I will leave with just putting the bare minimum in my purse if we arent going out for long, but I always have a bag… This is a disaster just waiting. You never know when they are going to hav that runny poop go all up their back and you will need a new diaper wipes and a change of clothes as they get older it will be handy because you will need to pack snacks etc. Dont get to used to not having one it can turn into your best friend.

Only if I am literally going out for a quick 10 minutes, like the bank. Otherwise, hell to the no. My son poops, and pees way too much.
