Is it just me, or did weddings used to happen a lot more in the home than they do now?
Looking back on all my families weddings, and those of my boyfriend, up to the 90’s they all took place either in the back yard or even in the living room (aunt). Do you ladies notice the same trend? Now, with the exception of one family member (father’s back yard) everyone has taken their wedding outside the home. I just find it curious, but then attribute it to the rise in the wedding industry. But I could be wrong.
Let me hear what you think, I’m really curious.

My parents and grandparents all had their weddings inside a church and then at a hall for their receptions. None of them had a wedding at home.

I love home receptions–I wanted one like Joan’s in “Mona Lisa Smile”, but my house is much too small for that.

In both sides of my family, tradition always was to have the ceremony in church and the reception at home. Only the later generations have had the reception in a hall, but most of those still had the wedding at church. I can’t think of a family wedding I’ve been to that wasn’t in a church.

My parents got married at their local church and had a cake and punch reception at home, my mom talks about it like it was just assumed that’s how it would be. Which is less exciting, sure, but it’s a lot less pressure! I intend to do something similar 🙂
