My Mother-In-Law talks to my belly whenever we see her. My husband and I don’t talk to it, but I figure we talk to each other enough that she’ll know our voices.

My brother’s girlfriend is pregnant and we talk to the belly..  Even though it does seem a bit silly but we think it helps..  My mom keeps saying that when she was pregnant with me, my dad would talk to me constantly in the belly.. and when I popped out he said something and I apparently looked over at him like if I recongized his voice.  And the girlfriend says she can notice the baby kick more when it hears my brother’s voice..  So I believe there is some truth behind it..  Not my turn yet but I probably will when the time comes.

Early on I would try, but felt totally silly about it so I didn’t really pursue trying to force something that felt weird.  That all changed for me once his little kicks turned to full on blows…”what are you doing in there?”….”woah, calm down buddy”.  That’s when it came more naturally.  If he was kicking a lot before dinner, “we’d” have a conversation about him being hungry & what we were going to have for dinner, I talk to him in the car about what we have planned at work that day or to tell him that we’re on the way home to see daddy, and when he’s practicing his ninja moves at bedtime I sing to him begging him to let mommy sleep.  Now that I can tell he responds to sound, it’s even easier to talk to him without feeling silly.  In the mornings if I dont’ feel him moving around when I get up, I tell him good morning several times and rub my belly over where his bum and feet are and he responds by wiggling around and poking his feet out.  He goes from sleeping to absolutely nuts moving around when my Darling Husband talks to him.  Give it time and it won’t feel so weird.
