Hi ladies! I just bought my dress for my summer wedding, but now I am having second thoughts.
First of all, it reveals my back which at first I thought looked great, but now I am worried it’s too much skin because I have a long torso. Also, I am 5’11 and wear a size 8, but I have a lower belly chub. I’m very self-conscious and I’m not sure my dress is the best fit for me.
Any tall brides have similar issues? What kind of dress do you recommend?
Thank you! 🙂

Hi! I was also a tall bride at 5’11’ and a street size 8 but with some love handles and thick thighs. I was also really self conscious of my back and arms. I had a ball gown that was very fitted at the torso. I lost a bit of weight (like 10 pounds) between buying my dress and my fittings and that definitely helped with feeling more comfortable!
On my actual wedding day, all my worries went out the window and I felt beautiful and perfect. I still love looking back on pics and realize that I was being too hard on myself !
what kind of dress do you have right now?

5’11 bride here, and size 10/12 during Cushings flare, with belly and hip issues mostly. My dress was form fitting and while I felt fat during my wedding, I actually think the pictures aren’t horrible (and I got good reviews on the day!). I’d need to see a photo of your dress, but I’m sure you look lovely.

I’m 5’9″ and a 10 street size. I also have a long torso and thought an a line with an illusion neckline or cap sleeves would be most flattering due to my perceived flaws such as my arms, waistline, etc. I ended up in a modified fit and flare that is strapless and hugs every bit of me and I feel so amazing in it that I would be happy getting married today with zero weight lost.
Try not to be too hard on yourself! You are taller than me and a size smaller than me so I can only imagine you look amazing in your dress! If you are comfortable, please share a picture of you in your dress! Here is mine.

5’10, street size 6, have also been an 8/10 before. I totally hear you. The slightest chub I might perceive on my body makes me feel like an ogre, because my height gives me a prominent presence in any room, and for once in my life I’d like to know what it feels like to be dainty. 😄
But seriously, we are all our own worst critics, and nobody will ever see your flaws as you do (if they even see them at all).
To minimize your tummy concerns in your dress, stay hydrated and avoid excessive amounts of salt or foods that cause bloating.
Also regarding the low back: I wouldn’t worry about it! I feel similarly when I go strapless (“omg! So much skin!”) but I think that’s another thing that’s all in our heads. Think about some of the gowns worn by tall actresses at red carpet events. They don’t look weird or inappropriate or anything. You’re probably just not used to seeing a style like that on your own body. 🙂

Girl, rock your dress! I’m 5’10” and a street size 8. I have a strapless dress and I get what you’re saying, if you’re tall it sometimes seems like youre showing too much skin in what you think looks normal on others. No one else is going to think that, you will look amazing! Here’s a pic of my dress. I get the same lower tummy issues too. I will be wearing some shapewear under mine for the day. Could probably get away without it, but it makes me feel confident so I’m going to wear it, along with a longline strapless low back bra.

segana : I’m sure you look amazing in the dress you chose! As PP have said, we really are our own worst critics.
Look into some shapewear to smooth any “lumps and bumps” that have got you worried. I’m 6′ and wear a street size 16. I found a corset type bra over spanx gave me a really nice hour glass shape and made me feel better about my chubby tummy. I was also surprised how well my veil covered my arms in photos, which was somewhat of a relief. All and all, I felt amazing in my dress and you will too, Bee!!
Here’s my A-line dress at my final fitting:
And on my wedding day:

I’m a tall bride too….5 9″ and currently a street size 14 ish (I’m going to need to trim down to my typical size 12 to be able to fit my dress that I ordered in February….uugh) I’m very hippy….lower gut troubles too so I’m praying day of I’m able to sit and everything fits just right!!?? Lol

I am 5’10 and wore a size 11 wedding dress. TRUST ME, all brides, regardless of body type, have ‘dress doubt’. You are a bride, you are beautiful! When you walk down that aisle NOBODY is going to think “hmmm….that’s a little too much back” or “oh dear she has an extra inch on her tummy”. Have faith Bee, you are going to be great 🙂
