I have been dwelling extensively on the centerpieces I want for our reception, and I have fallen in love with submerged orchids. I am tired, however, of the same old image of submerged orchids in tall cylinder vases, so I want to break the mold a little bit. I was thinking of putting them into tall hurricane vases instead, and then adding a small tea light to the top to add some brightness.
Anywa, I am looking to do my centerpieces on a tight budget – do you all have any suggestions on where to buy stemmed hurricane candle holders or vases on the cheap? Any suggestions would be appreciated

I would try the dollar type stores. Since it is near the holidays, you can probably find what you need at one of them.

Any of the candle websites should have stemmed candle holders. I considered this as well, but I’m DIYing and wanted my centerpieces to be $15 or less. Not sure what your budget is for a centerpiece but it definitely isn’t inexpensive. I estimated this type of centerpece at at least $40 each.
ETA: Here is someone on Recycled Bride who is selling 9 sets: http://www.recycledbride.com/listing/7904/stemmed-pillar-pedestal-candle-holders-3-sizes

Dollar Tree has small ones right now! They’re like tealight sized so a little small for what you’re thinking put they’d probably be great for some accent areas.
Save on Crafts has some small ones

In Maryland I’d try to go to discount places like Ollie’s or Big Lots. Or Marshalls and TJMaxx. I see these sorts of things there from time to time. I think department stores sell like sets of 3 at slightly different heights for people to use as dining room table centerpieces. A discount place may have these sorts of ses for cheap!

@YSQueen: Oh that is great. Those are exactly what I’m looking for, but I am trying to keep under $30 per table, so that is just a little out of my range. Good find, though!
@MissTurtle27:yeah, i saw those. save-on-crafts seems to be the go-to source for all brides! haha. it was definitely one of the first places i looked. ANyway, you are right…i think they may be too small for what I am trying to do. I wish I could touch them and really see how small they are! Thx also for the local store suggestions. I have pretty much been stalking my local Marshalls for wedding glassware. We’re doing a candy buffet and I managed to purchase all my containers for $35!

Have you thought of making your own?-use epoxy glue to attach a cylinder vase to a glass candlestick.

@julies1949: that is so great that you mentioned that. I just heard about that last night and I was reserching it today. It will be sooo much less expensive! Now I just need to find the right kind of pedestal or candlestick or something to serve as the base – the top should be easy to come by! Thx
