I’ve been having a bit of a cake dilemma for our purple wedding. Purple is the type of color that just isn’t usually associated with food. I’m afraid a bright or dark purple on a cake won’t look very appetizing and also might stain guest’s mouths/teeth/clothes when they eat (or spill!). I haven’t found any pictures with a pale purple that I’ve really liked because they seem to look more like the color for a kid’s birthday party. I don’t want fondant covering the cake but am ok with some fondant accents. I could do an all white cake with real purple flowers, but I think I’d prefer to keep the cake all edible.
One idea that I found when looking through cake books at a local bakery is a tan cake with white icing designs. This cake wouldn’t have any purple on it at all, does that seem weird? The bridesmaids are all wearing nude colored shoes with their purple dresses so it still kind of fits the theme. Maybe I could put purple flowers or flower pedals on the cake table?
Let me know what you think – I open to new suggestions/pictures too!
Here is a link to the picture i liked. The specific cake is called “Gabriella” and is image 40 out of 64. Sorry I don’t know how to post the actual picture in this post!

That cake is gorgeous! I think it could tie into your theme especially since the bridesmaids are wearing nude color shoes.

I think you just haven’t done enough research!! 😉 There are SO MANY OPTIONS.
Start here for super beautiful cake inspiration: http://thecaketress.blogspot.com/
Second, ombre cakes prove that you can do light purple and not fondant.
Third….mmmmm cake. That is all.

ps. Find an image, right click over it and save to your desktop. Then go to the comment section and clieck the funny looking green sqaure thingie. It will then ask you what pic you want to upload. Voila. 🙂 Oh, and sometimes WB is a bitch and it refuses to format to how you want. The gods are against you sometimes, just go with it.

@WillyNilly: I agree…more research…google images of purple wedding cakes and you’ll see a lot of beautiful pictures…especially the ones that look like black and purple damask!

@missnittany: Could you do purple accents on the cake?
