Ohhh this is exciting! I love tattoos 😉
I’ll go in the order I received them.
My dandelion blowing in the wind. I know, it’s pretty common and probably all over pinterest, but it’s been almost 4 years and I still love it to pieces.
This one is my baby. I love it so much. It’s a replica of Harry Potter’s wand, with a spell coming out of it that says “all was well” with his lightning bold after it. Those are the last 3 words of the Harry Potter series, in case anyone didn’t know lol.
This is a pretty important piece. My cousin committed suicide when I was in 10th grade. 3 years or so later I got this piece. He was really big into fishing. That’s all he ever wanted to do — be on the water. The little boy is him, sitting on the moon and fishing off of it, watching over all of us. I took the lyrics “Something’s watching over me like sweet serendipity” from Lee DeWyze’s first single after he won AI. I felt it really summed up how I feel about life, and I also feel like my cousin is watching over me.
I wouldn’t say I regret this one, but I definitely wouldn’t get it if I went back in time. However, I don’t think about it day to day, or feel upset about it when I do think about it or see it. I got it on a whim, because I was a science major for a looooong time in college. I was struggling, but I thought that science really was my passion. It turns out I was just trying to convince myself of that, and I’m much happier in my new major. I may get this piece covered up at some point.
I love this piece. It’s the lyrics “Take your time, don’t live too fast. Troubles will come and they will pass” from “simple man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Now, before anyones asks, no I’m not a huge Skynyrd fan, haha. Nor am I redneck or from the South or anything. (Technically I’m from the real south — Florida lol). However, I love this song, and my dad used to play it to me on the guitar all the time. Sometimes I would fall asleep to him playing it. I really feel like it’s a good thing for me to remember, because I’m constantly living in the future, and I’m always stressed about it.
This one is my latest one. I absolutely love it. There’s so much meaning to it, I’d have to write an essay to explain it. Basically, it’s the Hebrew word “hesed” (or “chesed”). I’ve seen 10 page papers explaining what this word means, and it’s more than just a word that has a definition. There’s a whole special meaning attached to it. Here are some quotes from essays that may help explain it:
“HESED, however, describes a mutual relationship between man and between God.”
“(1) HESED of man – kindness of men towards men, in doing favors and benefits; kindness extended to the lowly, needy and miserable; mercy. (rarely) affection or love of Israel to God, piety; lovely appearance.
(2) HESED of God – redemption from enemies and troubles; in preservation of life from death; in quickening of spiritual life; in redemption from sin; in keeping the covenants, with Abraham; with Moses and Israel.”
“It’s not always easy to find a word in another language to use as a translation. Rabbi Kamsler suggests that the best English word to use as a translation for HESED would be ‘loyalty.'”
