I have two but I want more. I have a fairy in front of the moon on my right shoulder and a heart with a key going threw it above my actual heart.

I have two now, one is still in progress:

Wrist tattoo, says Om Mani Padme Hum, or Hail the Jewel of the Lotus (Buddhist Mantra)

edit: oh yea, and that’s my Fiance totally rocking the fro 🙂

Closeup:

My back tattoo, a galaxy coming out of a rose. The original artist made it (the galaxy)too dark, looking to get it fixed to have a brighter center and more contrast:

I have a gecko on my rib cage.  All three of us girls have the same gecko in a different place on our body (middle sister on her thigh, younger sister on her shoulder).  Our baby sister passed away 5 years ago, and we all got the same tattoo.  Her name was Elizabeth, and we always called her Lizard Breath (she loved it, and started collecting lizards later in life).

The elephants are across my lower back (which was really hard to take a picture of).  One for each sister, and the third has angel wings and a halo on it for the sister who passed away.

I’m getting justice scales when I pass the bar next year.

@buttontoes: I love the story behind your tattoos! It’s sad but sweet.

I never told my stories…the first one was a spur of the moment thing. My Fiance was trading a car system for a tattoo for each of us so I didn’t have much time to pick put we got our first tattoos together. He got a big red celtic cross on his spine with the name Paul above it (Paul is a family name. It was his great-gradfathers name, the olderst boy in that family got it as a middle name, it’s his middle name, and it’s our little boy’s middle name.)

The second one I got from the promise ring my Fiance gave me right after the first time we slept together. I have always liked the key to my heart stuff and I wanted a tattoo to match the ring. My sisters both liked my idea and the ring so they wanted it too so mine is the only one in color and theirs are just shaded.

here’s mine – I have five. Four of them have been done by the same artist – my best friends fiance – and as an added perk, I get them for minimal cost. I listed them in the order I got them:

1) Left breast: Got it when I was 17 & the guy didn’t listen and screwed it up. I want to cover it but I don’t know with what yet. Plus tI still like the he symbolism behind it – it’s a pair of 10 wk old baby feet (a symbol of the pro-life movement — which I was really into as a teenager)- inside a heart (which was supposed to be drawn the way I did my hearts, but total fail) (done by a different artist than the rest – 60$).

2) Left wrist: “Unique” with musical notes over it. I wanted to get it to remind myself I’m unique, just like everybody else 🙂 The musical notes are because I grew up (and still do) play(ing) the violin, piano, trumpet as well as singing. (20$ and a pizza).

3) Behind left ear: Again, another screw up, but this one was my fault. I approved the stencil without a clear view, and it ended up WAAAAY bigger than I wanted (I wanted it dime-sized). This is the only tattoo I would consider removing entirely, since it’s very noticeable with my hair pulled back, and that will probably translate to problems when I enter the job market. (50$)

4) Right wrist: “Beauty”. I got it after I underwent gastric bypass (rny) surgery to remind myself that, even at my heaviest, I was still beautiful. Plus the colour is kickass. (free)

5) Upper back: This one is incredibly special. My FI’s mom passed away very suddenly in October of 2009. She collected (and loved) elephants her entire life so both my Fiance and I decided to get elephant tattoos to honour her memory. I chose the quote by e.e. cummings because I got teary-eyed & goosebumpy when I read it. Also, her favourite colour was purple, so I incorporated that in the tattoo as well. (40$ – my guy said he would have easily charged 380$ regularly for it – I feel INCREDIBLY lucky that I have this connection).

I’m including my FI’s tattoo as well, since we got them together and for the shared subject behind them- it’s his first.

I have a sun on the small of my back – it’s the only tattoo I have and probably the only one I will ever get – got it when I was 18. You can see it in this pic of my pinning my ‘something old’ (a piece of lace from my great-great-grandmother’s wedding dress) to the tulle of my gown on my wedding day!
